Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Software Development :: Testing

About: 2Pong is a pong clone that is played with two balls instead of
one. The game features two modes of play - the regular pong game, and a
time-based mode against an unbeatable AI opponent. Network support for
1-vs-1 games is  planned.

Office/Business
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: absence is a calendar tool for keeping track of people (but could
be adapted for any other object) on a daily basis. It is meant to replace
that ubiquitous whiteboard in the office of the boss. You know the one,
where someone has used a permanent magic marker to mark a matrix, and
vacations/training/etc. are marked with non-permanent markers as blocks.
absence is a CGI system, and has a resolution of one day. It is not
intended to be used for keeping appointments or any other activity that
requires a finer resolution. It generates an image for each month to be
displayed using the GD library, and it can be configured to produce PNG or
GIF (or even JPEG).

Changes: This release adds the ability to manage multiple instances (i.e.,
different URLs and datafiles) using a single set of scripts and modules.

The aim is to find as many words as possible in the time available. Get
the longest word and you'll advance to the next level. It uses SDL.

Changes: Keyboard support has been added. Some minor bugfixes have been
incorporated, which will especially help people compiling using Red Hat
7.3.

  by Louis D. Langholtz (http://freshmeat.net/users/llangholtz/)
  Wednesday, July 2nd 2003 01:17

About: The Another NBD distribution provides both an NBD (network block
device) client and server as well as SGML-based manual pages. It provides
numerous additional features beyond the original NBD tools distribution,
including a multi-threaded implementation, robustness enhancements, a
server monitoring tool, and more detailed user messages. The tools are
fully compatible with the existing Linux kernel NBD driver.

Changes: A workaround was implemented for an incorrect sizing problem
with NBD devices in Linux 2.5.

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is a firewall solution. It does stateful
packet inspection filtering, content filtering, user authentication, virus
scanning, spam protection, VPN with IPSec (PKI for X.509 certificates) and
PPTP, Wireless LAN, VLAN, PPPoE, PPPoA, and much more. With its Web-based
management tool, WebAdmin, and the ability to pull updates via the
Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on a special hardened
Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running in change-roots and
are protected by kernel capabilities.

Changes: This Up2Date improves the performance for POP3 and SMTP AntiVirus
scanning, and fixes two POP3-related bugs.

  by MA (http://freshmeat.net/users/mandree/)
  Wednesday, July 2nd 2003 19:09

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters

About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.

Changes: A bulk mode has been added. Bogofilter can now take HTML tags
into account. The parser has been enhanced. The documentation has been
enhanced, tuning is described, and a French translation of the FAQ has
been added. Autoconfiguration of BerkeleyDB has been improved. MacOS X and
Solaris portability fixes have been made.

[022] - Cyrus IMAP Server 2.1.14 (2.1)
  by Rob Siemborski (http://freshmeat.net/users/robsiemb/)
  Wednesday, July 2nd 2003 14:47

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Internet

About: The Cyrus IMAP server is generally intended to be run on sealed
systems, where normal users are not permitted to log in. The mailbox
database is stored in parts of the filesystem that are private to Cyrus.
All user access to mail is through the IMAP, POP3, or KPOP protocols. The
private mailbox database design gives the server large advantages in
efficiency, scalability, and administratability. Multiple concurrent
read/write connections to the same mailbox are permitted. The server
supports access control lists on mailboxes and storage quotas on mailbox
hierarchies, multiple SASL mechanisms, and the Sieve mail filtering
language.

Changes: This release focuses on fixing a number of small bugs throughout
the server, including handling of badly-formed MIME messages, better
handling of altnamespace and unixhierarchysep in Murder enviornments, and
correct handling of literals in the imclient library. New features include
the ability to apply cyradm commands to aggregate mailbox sets.

[023] - darcs 0.9.11
  by David Roundy (http://freshmeat.net/users/droundy/)
  Wednesday, July 2nd 2003 06:05

Software Development :: Version Control

About: Darcs is an advanced revision control system along the lines of CVS
or arch. It has two particularly distinctive features which differ from
other revision control systems: each copy of the source is a fully
functional branch, and underlying it is a consistent and powerful theory
of patches (the latter being darcs' most important feature).

Changes: The configure and makefile code was rewritten to use autoconf.
Several new repository configuration options were added, including a
setpref command which allows you to set preferences options that are
pulled from repo to repo. The user can now revert changes on a
change-by-change basis. Yet another major improvement in speed and memory
consumption was made. A darcs diff command was added to compare two
versions.

About: Darkbot is a very fast and small IRC bot written in C. Originally
created as an aid for help channels to answer repeated questions from its
virtually unlimited database, it has became a very popular talking robot
in a generic sense, being used all over IRC networks for different
purposes and in 18 languages. Data can be added to it and managed
dynamically online or edited in its database files offline. An extensive
but easy-to-understand list of commands and features, including some
channel operation functions and levels of protection, makes Darkbot a very
flexible but somehow powerful and complex robot, with almost human
conversations and reactions.

[029] - dvipng 0.4
  by Jan-Ĺke Larsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/jalar/)
  Wednesday, July 2nd 2003 14:42

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: This program makes PNG graphics from DVI files as obtained from TeX
and its relatives. Its benefits include speed; it is the fastest
bitmap-rendering code for DVI files. On a fairly low-end laptop, it takes
less than a second to generate 150 one-formula images. Furthermore, it
does not read the postamble, so it can be started before TeX finishes.
There is a -follow switch that makes dvipng wait at EOF for further
output, unless it finds the POST marker that indicates the end of the DVI.
It supports PK and VF fonts, color specials, and more.

Changes: This release is mainly to provide documentation. It also
introduces "drift", compensating for rounding errors along the lines
described in 'dvitype'. Also, on systems with a fairly new gd (2.0.14 or
newer), the PNG compression can be specified on the command line; the
default is to opt for speed.

About: FSP is a UDP-based protocol for transferring files. It has many
benefits over FTP, mainly for running anonymous archives. It is usable on
lines with high packet loss ratio (70% WiFi), can go behind firewalls and

optional extensions. ACAP allows applications to store configuration data
in a way that's standards based, fully interoperable, and easily managed
by users, administrators, and technical support teams alike. Infotrope's
key features include the ability to randomly crash the server without
data loss, and backing up of data (even while it's being written) without
losing  integrity.

Changes: And thusly didst the TLS support get into a pretty reasonable
working condition, and relatively glorious was the SASL encryption
support, too. And the STORE command didst finally emit ENTRY responses.
And numerous minor conformance errors, mostly to do with NO vs. BAD, didst
truly get fixed. And there was, naturally, much wailing and gnashing of
teeth, although frankly nobody knows why.

Software Development :: Testing

About: Jameleon is an automated testing tool that separates applications
into features and allows those features to be tied together independently,
creating test-cases. These test-cases can then be data-driven and executed
against different environments. The goal is to create an automated testing
tool that can be used for the enterprise. A UI that ties a series of
features to a test-case, creating both the test script and the test-case
documentation is in the works.

Changes: Two new convenience methods were added, dropping the number of
lines of code by half. Dependencies on many external libraries were
removed, making the program much smaller, and the documentation was

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Jamon is a text template engine for Java that is useful for
generating dynamic HTML, XML, or any text-based content. It has a rich
feature set that supports encapsulation, parameterization, functional
decomposition, and reuse of presentation logic. Because it is compiled
to non-reflective Java code, and statically type-checked, Jamon is ideally
suited to supporting refactoring of template-based UI applications.
Templates declare the arguments they require for rendering, including
dynamic template content ("fragments"), and are translated into Java
classes with public methods whose signatures reflect the arguments
declared in the templates. This provides compile-time type- checking as
well as excellent performance.

Changes: This release includes the addition of template inheritance,
template aliases, improved parsing and error reporting, simplified
configuration, more intuitive whitespace interpretation, a ten step
tutorial, and overall performance enhancements.

  Wednesday, July 2nd 2003 05:53

Office/Business
Printing

About: KBarcode is a barcode and label printing application for KDE 3. It
can be used to print everything from simple business cards up to complex
labels with several barcodes, such as article descriptions. KBarcode comes
with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG label designer, a setup wizard, batch import
of labels (directly from the delivery note), thousands of predefined
labels, database managment tools, and translations in many languages. Even
printing more than 10,000 labels in one go is no problem for KBarcode.
Additionally, it is a simple xbarcode replacement for the creation of
barcodes. All major types of barcodes like EAN, UPC, CODE39, and ISBN are
supported.

Changes: This release imports many new label definitions (~600) from
OpenOffice.org 1.0.2, adds drawing of lines, rects, and elipses, fixes
many bugs, improves the first start wizard and printing from the label
editor, adds data import from the clipboard, and fixes clipboard support
in the simple barcode generator. The preview dialog keeps its values now.

files. It uses memory files as file abstraction to achieve both
performance and portability. For binary files, it implements (with some
modification) the algorithm described in "File System Support for Delta
Compression" by Joshua P. MacDonald. For text files, it follows directives
described in "An O(ND) Difference Algorithm and Its Variations" by Eugene
W. Myers. Memory files used by the library are basically a collection of

About: Naken Chat is a port of Javachat to C. Javachat can be directly
replaced with this server and the Java chat client or telnet client will
talk to it as if it was Javachat. Naken Chat is multithreaded (like
Javachat) and has all the features (channels, gagging, squelching, private
messages, etc) and has been tested on: Linux, FreeBSD, Irix, Solaris, and
Win32.

Changes: Many new features were added, including a rewritten core with
cleaner threading support and user registration. The server now uses less
 memory and is much more stable. An updated version of the Java applet is
also available.

About: Ncohafmuta is a text-based chat server that is designed for access
from a telnet client. Its purpose is to allow users to communicate in a
configurable environment in realtime. It allows users to create accounts
with their own settings and optional personal information. Rooms are the

internal email, email forwarding, a configure script for multiple Unices,
support for cygwin under Win32, macros, games, a ranking system with
access to more commands, ANSI coloring, banning, async DNS,
soft/hot-rebooting, detailed, organized logging, and an internal Web
server port.

Changes: This version fixes a race doing queue_flush_www(), where
free_sock() could be called twice on a socket, causing a segfaul, adds a
bad socket check in free_sock(), updates some of the rwho listings to
current IPs, removes hard-coded system name from EXT_WHO3 in
hdrfiles/constants.h, adds some comments in hdrfiles/constants.h, updates
Cygwin documentation in docs/README.windows, and fixes very strict 'may

  Wednesday, July 2nd 2003 22:21

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: PlexMailer is anti-spam software that comes with an email client
but also works with other email clients. It comes with hundreds of
predefined filters to detect spam and viruses and supports dozens of
blackhole lists such as ORBS, MAPS, SBL, DUL, Vipul's Razor/SpamNet, etc.
In addition, users can define rules to detect spam email based on various
header fields and contents of the email message. It also comes with an
analytical engine that gathers information about source of the spam
message and respective email addresses of the administrators. Users can
then report senders to their ISP, send fake "unknown user" replies, store
email in a different folder, or forward email to another user. It supports
POP3, IMAP, SMTP, LDAP, and NNTP protocols as well as mbox mail folders.
It also supports SSL versions of the above protocols and the S/MIME
protocol for secured email. It supports both command-line and graphical
based interfaces.

Changes: This version now supports a Bayesian filter, allows users to
automatically organize their mail folders by storing the incoming messages
from each sender to his/her unique folder, has improved notifications
capabilities when new messages arrive, and allows users to setup
friends-only filters.
