[001] - ANT is Not a Telephone 0.1.0
  by Roland Stigge (http://freshmeat.net/users/stigge/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 08:31

Communications :: Telephony

About: ANT is a telephone application for GNU/Linux, ISDN4Linux, and OSS.

Changes: New features include live recording to files, popup on incoming
call, configurable preset buttons, isdnlog data import, tracking of
unanswered calls, and more.

[002] - Autopoweroff 1.1.0
  by Hans Deragon (http://freshmeat.net/users/deragon/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 23:45

System :: Boot :: Init

About: Autopoweroff is a script that shuts down a computer at a specific
time, but only if some conditions are met. It works well on home
router/firewalls where the machine can be switched off every night and
powered back up in the morning. It can be configured to only shut down the
server after any computers which depend on the server for Internet access
have been shut down.

Changes: This version features automatic GNOME installation. Under Red
Hat 9.0, the cancel and enable scripts now have icons showing up under
the "System tools" menu. The installation and uninstallation of the
software was  improved

[003] - ayttm 0.3.0
  by Colin Leroy (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinleroy/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 05:59

Communications :: Chat

About: Ayttm is an instant messenger program, supporting various protocols
such as MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Jabber, and more. It is a fork of Everybuddy, and
initially aims to address its problems. It should not segfault when you
use it, and should be almost instantly usable by your mother. Almost
useless prefs should be hidden, reserved for "advanced" users, and things
have to work without wondering what this or that will produce.

Changes: Lots of bugs were fixed, including a few segfaults, TOC chatroom
name errors, TOC port problems with transparent proxies, and proxy support
problems. Some new features were added, like "Actions", which lets you run
arbitrary commands using your logs, a cleaner and nicer preferences
window, the ability to specify "login on startup" seperately for each
account, and activity bars at login (which allows hung connections to be
cancelled).

[004] - BBStatus 2.0RC9
  by Tarhon-Onu Victor (http://freshmeat.net/users/mituc/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 12:55

About: BBStatus is an IP accounting package, and an SNMP and IP monitoring
tool for Linux. It collects, summarizes, and displays the values from its
database. It can be used for IP accounting (using iptables, you can design
various kinds of accounting filters), SNMP monitoring (collects data
making SNMP requests), IP monitoring (using ping, it stores and summarizes
values like min, avg, max reply time, and packet loss), and client traffic
filtering (using various types of filters). It also provides user based
access so that every user can log in and check the traffic from/through
his/her IP addresses. It requires PostgreSQL, Apache with mod_auth_pgsql,
Perl(Net::SNMP), and RRDTool.

Changes: An "expand subnets" option for IP accounting filters has been
added. There is a small bugfix in bbstatus-cronjob-createfilters.sh.

[006] - CapiSuite 0.4.2
  by Gernot Hillier (http://freshmeat.net/users/yoda_gh/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 19:14

Communications :: Fax
Communications :: Telephony

About: CapiSuite is an ISDN telecommunication suite providing easy-to-use
telecommunication functions which can be controlled from Python scripts.
It uses a CAPI-compatible driver for accessing the ISDN-hardware, so
you'll need a CAPI-compatible driver. CapiSuite is distributed with two
example scripts for call incoming handling and fax sending. They provide a
multi-user answering machine with fax recognition, remote inquiry, and fax
receiving/sending functions.

Changes: This release fixes annoying problems and includes some much
wanted small new features. Some problems in faxing are fixed: reception of
long faxes (> 40 pages), the one-hour send delay (daylight saving time...
:-( ) and some problems in command line parsing of capisuitefax. The
attachments to sent email messages get a valid filename now. Multiple mail
addresses per user are possible, and the Austrian global call (and other
strange providers who transmit no destination number in some cases) is
supported. The manual is available in PDF format.

[008] - CG_spam_filter.pl 1.6
  by Viraj Alankar (http://freshmeat.net/users/valankos/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 18:51

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: CG_spam_filter.pl provides a content filter program for the Stalker
CommuniGate Pro mail server that seeks to limit the number of outgoing
spam your local users can send and incoming spam your system can receive.
In essence, it is a throttling script that starts rejecting mail once a
certain threshold is reached, such as X messages or recipients per minute.
It is difficult to catch spammers until after the fact (when they have
already done lots of damage and spammed many users); this is simply an
effort to stop them in their tracks in real-time so you can deal with them
later.

Changes: The filter has been updated to work correctly with later versions
of CommuniGate that send the INTF version-request command. SpamAssassin
support has been improved to add headers to the message indicating spam
rather than rejecting it.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Class.Jabber.PHP is a class which you can use to connect to the
Jabber network. It allows you to easily connect to a server and interact
with it. It supports all packet types (message, iq, and presence), is very
flexible, and offers both high-level methods (registration, message
sending, etc.) and low-level methods (packet sending, etc.).

Changes: Transport/gateway connection methods were added. Some bugfixes
were made.

[010] - Compact Disc Input and Control Library 0.5
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 23:49

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Video
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Compact Disc Input and Control library encapsulates CD-ROM
reading and control. Applications wishing to be oblivious of the OS- and
device-dependent properties of a CD-ROM can use this library. Some support
for disk image types like BIN/CUE and NRG is available, so applications
that use this library also have the ability to read disc images as though
they were CDs. A sample utility for displaying CD info is included.

Changes: This version adds an RPM spec file. cdinfo was renamed to
cd-info to avoid conflicts with other existing programs. If libvcdinfo is
installed, cd-info now shows general Video CD properties.

  Sunday, April 27th 2003 23:15

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: Ecasound is a software package designed for multitrack audio
processing. It can be used for simple tasks like audio playback,
recording, and format conversions, as well as for multitrack effect
processing, mixing, recording and signal recycling. It supports a wide
range of audio inputs, outputs, and effect algorithms. Effects and audio
objects can be combined in various ways, and their parameters can be
controlled by operator objects like oscillators and MIDI-CCs. A versatile
console-mode user interface is included in the package.

Changes: The user-friendliness of 'jack_auto' and 'resample' audio
objects has been improved. Compile-time support was added for both JACK
0.50 and 0.60. The Python-only implementation of ECI is now selected by
default. A work-around is included for a bug in ALSA 0.9.1 that broke
xrun handling for record and playback. Lots of small bugs have been fixed
in the build process. The SIGFPE bug that occurred on FreeBSD systems is
now fixed, as is the non-aligned access problem on Alphas.

[014] - Encrypted Virtual File System 0.2
  by sd (http://freshmeat.net/users/sd/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 23:14

About: EVFS is a Linux virtual filesystem which sits on top of VFS to
access the underlying filesystem. This means users can mount any
directory containing encrypted data to any other directory (=clone), but
the second will be encrypted/decrypted transparently until it is
unmounted. It has multi-user support so that regular users can mount
their own evfs filesystems from and to directories they own. Therefore
it's possible to have a totally encrypted filesystem, each user with
their own  key.

[015] - fli4l 2.0.8 (Stable)
  by Tobias Gruetzmacher (http://freshmeat.net/users/tobig/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 11:52

System :: Operating System

About: fli4l is a single-floppy Linux-based ISDN/DSL/ethernet-router. It
features configuration with some simple ASCII-files, several possible
connection-flavors (in/out/callback, and raw IP/PPP), channel bundling (an
extra channel can be added through a Windows/Unix-client), configuration
of multiple networks, least-cost routing, automatic choice of provider,
display/calculation of connection times and costs, and a Windows/Unix
client to control dial/hangup, monitor traffic and monitor incoming calls
on ISDN (see screenshot).

Changes: This release has some bugfixes for the bootscript, in the
fli4lctrl script, and in the Windows-IMONC. There is a new version of
flicp (0.2). imond & ens are now logging to Syslog correctly. The hd
package has a change for syslinux to not use the msdos.o kernel module,
and now performs more error checking.

  by linux (http://freshmeat.net/users/brainless/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 01:15

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)

About: Fract-O-Rama is a Qt-based fractal generation program. All fractal
images are specified using the program's fractal scripting language, so it
is possible to explore a wider variety of fractal types/options than with
many other generation programs. Full source is included, and the program
readily compiles/runs on UNIX or win32 (win32 binaries are also available,
as a Qt commercial license is required to build the program on windows).
It comes with documentation and many example fractals.

Changes: bernoulli() and euler() functions were added for returning the
Nth Bernoulli and Euler numbers. bit_and(), bit_or(), bit_xor(),
bit_shl(), bit_shr(), and bit_not() functions were also added. Support for
hex integers was added with 0x{value} and 0X{value}. 'print' and 'println'
now use '.' instead of '+' for chaining items to print, making it possible
to mix string literals with any double or complex expression.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: GGTL is a C library to help people program computer games. It is
targeted in particular at two-player zero-sum games with perfect
information. Examples are Chess, Checkers, Go, Othello (Reversi),
Tic-Tac-Toe, and Connect-4. For such games, GGTL can provide Alpha-Beta
game-tree search (both fixed-depth and iterative deepening), unlimited
undo, and saving to/resuming from files. Three example games, Othello,
Connect-4, and Tic-Tac-Toe, are included.

Changes: GGTL now uses pointers to user-defined abstract types instead of
generic pointers. It also no longer enforces a fixed sequence in which the
players of the game must move. ChangeLogs were also added.

About: glibc-audit is a modified version of glibc for application
developers who check their code with an automatic memory access checker
such as Purify, Insure++, or valgrind. glibc-audit has been audited and
cleaned up so that reports from the developer's use of a memory access

"noise" from the C library itself. Also, the r_debug.r_brk protocol has
been enhanced to co-operate with a co-resident auditor.

[024] - HTTP Fetcher 1.0.2
  by Lyle Hanson (http://freshmeat.net/users/lhanson/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 18:55

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: HTTP Fetcher is a small, robust, flexible library for downloading
files via HTTP using the GET method. It's easy to use, but it also allows
you to customize and manipulate your file requests through altering the
User Agent, Referer, timeout, etc. The error reporting functions give you
a simple, clean interface through which to obtain information about a
problem. HTTP Fetcher is designed to let you retrieve files via HTTP
quickly and easily without having to reinvent the wheel. From this base
you can build interactive download tools (like fetch), site mirroring
tools, Web spiders, or anything with a need to do HTTP GETs.

Changes: A buffer overflow and a memory leak have been fixed. There are
portability improvements and build process checks for necessary functions.
Included are a spec file for building RPM packages and an http-fetcher.m4
macro file for inclusion with autoconf. It checks for hstrerror and
provides a workaround if not present.

About: IOG is a network I/O byte grapher made to graph cumulative KB/MB/GB
totals for hours/days and months. It is intended to be simple, fast
(support thousands of interfaces) and integrate well with MRTG (not
required). Data for each host is updated hourly and HTML graphs are
created. It uses a data consolidation algorithm which allows for a small,

  Sunday, April 27th 2003 23:47

Communications :: Email
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Database :: Front-Ends

About: ISPSuite is a suite of modular programs written principally in PHP
and Perl for the administration of an ISP. It includes online accounting
functions, report printing, subscriber statistics, and database
manipulation. It uses ICRadius and MySQL for the generation and collection
of data. The Suite also comes with a number of utilities which automate
most of the monthly tasks that an ISP faces. It provides modules for:
dynamic Web site production for subscribers; viewing current subscribers
online; editing facilities for all data held in the database, including
subscriber details; monthly accounting functions to produce online and
printed accounts for subscribers; daily banking facilities to record
payments received by mail and electronically; Debt Collection; assigning
of static IP numbers for subscribers; calendaring and diary modules for
"bring-up" reminders. Users can change passwords, plans, and personal
details online. Subscriber control modules assist administrators with
holding, deleting, and adding email boxes for POP accounts and alias
accounts.

Changes: This version adds a log display module which displays radius
log, maillog, and message log. It adds a module to display the phone
number of subscribers (if CallingStationID is turned on in Radius). There
is a totally new layout. The Javascript menu was replaced with a PHP
menu to avoid browser compatibility bugs. A Help Desk module was added to
allow for subscriber notes to be added on the fly.

[031] - J2SSH 0.1.3 beta
  by Richard Pernavas (http://freshmeat.net/users/rpernavas/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 07:39

Internet
Security
Security :: Cryptography

About: J2SSH is an object-orientated Java implementation of the SSH
version 2 protocol. It provides a rich, powerful, and extensible SSH API
that enables developers to gain access to SSH servers and to develop
entire SSH client/server frameworks. The API library provides a
fully-featured SSH2 implementation specifically designed for
cross-platform development. Higher level components, representing both the
standard SSH client and SSH servers, are provided which implement the
protocol specification for user sessions and port forwarding. The
specification currently supports public key and password authentication
and a full implementation of the SFTP protocol.

Changes: This beta release of J2SSH is primarily intended to ease the
configuration of the API and resolve a number of long outstanding minor
issues, allowing J2SSH to conform more rigidly to the SSH2 protocol
specification. Additionally, and by popular demand, the logging of debug
information has now been switched off by default.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Scapy is a powerful interactive packet manipulation tool, packet
generator, network scanner, network discovery tool, and packet sniffer. It
provides classes to interactively create packets or sets of packets,
manipulate them, send them over the wire, sniff other packets from the
wire, match answers and replies, and more. Interaction is provided by the
Python interpreter, so Python programming structures can be used (such as
variables, loops, and functions). Report modules are possible and easy to
make. It is intended to do about the same things as ttlscan, nmap, hping,
queso, p0f, xprobe, arping, arp-sk, arpspoof, firewalk, irpas, tethereal,
tcpdump, etc.

Changes: Experimental nmap OS fingerprinting support was added, and a
conf.except_filter was added to specify activities to ignore (such as your
own ssh connections). Other small fixes and enhancements were made.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Socket++ library defines a family of C++ classes that can be used
more effectively for using sockets than directly calling the underlying
low-level system functions. One distinct advantage of Socket++ is that it
has the same interface as that of the iostream so that the users can
perform type-safe input/output.

Changes: An uninitialized sockerr variable error could lead to a
segmentation fault in the caller exception handler if it called errstr().

[067] - Spyce 1.3.10
  by batripler (http://freshmeat.net/users/batripler/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 19:15

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: SPYCE is a Web server plugin that supports simple and efficient
Python-based dynamic HTML scripting. Those who like Python and are
familiar with JSP, PHP, or ASP, should have a look at this engine. It
allows one to generate dynamic HTML content just as easily, using Python
for the dynamic parts. Its modular design makes it very flexible and
extensible. It supports FastCGI, CGI, mod_python, and proxying to work
with Apache and most other Web servers. It can also be used as a
command-line utility for HTML pre-processing.

Changes: The default Spyce development environment has been upgraded
toPython 2.2.x and Apache 2.0.x; older versions of Python and Apache will
still be supported. The RPM has been updated to reflect this. A pageerror
configuration option has been added to allow for default page-level error
handlers. There are many bugfixes and minor standard libary improvements.
The Vim syntax file has been updated.

[069] - Transparent Mobile IP 0.11a (Development)
  by Sly (http://freshmeat.net/users/SlySimon/)
  Sunday, April 27th 2003 06:25

System :: Networking

About: Transparent Mobile IP (TMip) aims to provide IP mobility across
multiple networks, ensuring that all active TCP sessions will be
maintained upon client migration. No client-side software or alteration to
the IP stack is required. The network itself changes to provide
connectivity to hosts, using IP tunneling techniques.

Changes: An integrated DHCP server was added, which allocates addresses
out to mobile clients as they migrate/appear. The mobile location register
handles the address allocation, implying that the entire mobile network
acts as a single DHCP server. This means that a mobile host can release
its DHCP lease, migrate to a foreign cell and then upon DHCP request, it
will be allocated the same IP and address allocation it had previously. A
configuration file component was added, which saves having to specify
options on the command line. See the tmipcore module in the CVS tree.
