Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: ASC is a turn-based strategy game in the tradition of Battle Isle
2/3. It can be played against the computer or against other human players
(either hotseat or by mail).

Changes: The pathfinding system has been completely rewritten, allowing
units to change their level of height much more flexibly. The
transportation rules have also been rewritten. The campaign has been
extended, and now consists of five levels.

Communications :: Email
Internet :: Log Analysis

About: Anteater is a log analyser for MTA logfiles (for example sendmail).
The tool is written in 100% C++ and very easy to customize. Input, output,
and the analysis are modular class objects with a clear interface.
Currently there are modules for reading the syslog format of sendmail that
do up to seven useful analyses and write the result in plain ASCII or
HTML, to stdout or to files.

Changes: Some problems with gcc 3.x have been fixed. The missing ASCII
ouput of all parameters has been added with the command line option "-m".
The option "-h" has a short hint for the options "-m" and "-mhtml".

  Saturday, March 22nd 2003 17:34

Office/Business :: Financial
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting

About: In order to leave Windows behind most people need a
fully-functional money management program. CheckBook Tracker seeks to
solve that problem. It has the feel and features of packages like
Microsoft Money without requiring the user to build their own sources or

QIF files straight from Money or Quicken, autocomplete, check printing,
split transactions, balance forecasts, online banking, and more.

Changes: This release has online banking support through OFX files,
double-buffering to eliminate flicker on the graph and register, better
keyboard entry support (tab / default action on return), rewritten
scrollbars to fix handle size and allow for millions of transactions, a
fix for an "LCL" crash that occurred with some new users, and a fix for
positioning of the notebook control at startup.

System :: Networking

About: JFtp is a muti-threaded graphical FTP client written in Java. It
supports all the basic FTP operations, and has some improved features such
as recursive directory up/download, a nice swing UI, the ability to
automatically resume downloads, and the ability to recognize broken
directory names. The API is separated from the GUI and can also be used in
third-party applications or in a command-line mode. The clients lets you
browse the server while transferring files in both directions. JFtp can
also be started in a Web browser via Java Web Start, supports the SMB
(Windows file share) protocol, and can act as a file manager.

Changes: Initial support for the SMB protocol was added, which allows
users to browse a LAN or connect directly to Samba and Windows share
servers. Some bugfixes were also made.

[034] - KXParse 1.7
  by Khalid302 (http://freshmeat.net/users/khalid302/)
  Saturday, March 22nd 2003 09:11

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: KXParse is a PHP-based, lightweight, easy-to-use XML parser, with
no need of installation because it's just an include file that's loaded on
the fly. It features an API that simplifies the process of reading files,
and only parses the part of the document from which you want to extract
data, storing the results of calls in an internal cache. The performance
enhancing features mean that it is not possible to parse documents without
knowing the tag names.

Changes: This release is based on a contributed code cleanup. New API
functions have been added for easier setting of options (set_ops,
reset_ops), for better handling of the XML content (load_string,
get_content), and for removing an attribute (remove_attribute). Two minor
bugs have been fixed. The documentation has been rewritten for better
readability.

About: Moosic is a music player that focuses on easy playlist management.
It consists of a server process that maintains a queue of music files to

the server's queue, including the addition of whole directory trees,
automatic shuffling, and item removal according to regular expressions.
The server comes configured to play MP3, Ogg, MIDI, MOD, and WAV files.

VCDs. It also decodes multimedia files like AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP3 from
local disk drives, and displays multimedia streamed over the Internet. It
interprets many of the most common multimedia formats available--and some
of the most uncommon formats, too. All those features come in a reusable
library (xine-lib) which can easily be embedded in your applications.

Changes: The release focus is on important bugfixes (buffer overflows and
dvd navigation). MPEG-4 postfiltering is implemented now (ported from
ffmpeg/libavcodec), HTTP redirects should work, and xine's volume can be
controlled independantly of other applications using the
XINE_PARAM_AUDIO_AMP_LEVEL engine parameter.

Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: xine is a free multimedia player. It plays back CDs, DVDs, and

Changes: This release has a lot of bugfixes and detail improvements, such
as a massively enhanced browser plugin (real plugin emulation and GTK
widgets) and a splash screen. Snapshots from DVD playback should work now.
