[004] - AS Macroassembler 1.42 Build 21 (Current)
  by Michael Schwingen (http://freshmeat.net/users/mschwingen/)
  Sunday, May 26th 2002 18:25

Software Development Utilities

About: AS is a portable macro cross-assembler for a variety of
microprocessors and controllers. Though it is mainly targeted at embedded
processors and single-board computers, you also find CPU families in the
target list that are used in workstations and PCs.

Changes: The AVR part has been completely overworked, and Mega-AVR
instructions and addresses have been added. A small bug in the DATA
statement that came up when both byte and word operands were dumped in one
statement has been fixed. The TMS3206x part now handles the 'pseudo machine
instructions' directly that had to be emulated via macros before.
Additionally, there is now a set of pseudo instructions for it.
ENDIF/ENDCASE now print the line number of the corresponding IF/SWITCH to
the listing.

[006] - bitmask.c 1.0 (prerelease)
  by Ulf Ekström (http://freshmeat.net/users/ulfek/)
  Sunday, May 26th 2002 02:36

Games/Entertainment

About: The bitmask.c project provides pixel-perfect collision detection
for use in games and other applications. Functions are provided for
building bitmasks and testing them for intersection. The routines can
optionally provide a point of intersection and the number of overlapping
pixels. The library aims for high performance and portability; it is
written in ANSI C and is completely independent of the underlying
graphics implementation.

Changes: The routines have been rewritten from scratch but are based on an
older library and should provide adequate performance for most
applications.

[018] - eXtace 1.7.3 (Stable)
  by Dave J. Andruczyk (http://freshmeat.net/users/dja/)
  Sunday, May 26th 2002 18:40

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis Multimedia
:: Sound/Audio :: Speech

About: eXtace is a visual sound display/analysis program. It requires ALSA
(0.5.x) loopback or Esound (esd) for its audio source. It includes various
fast fourier transforms of the audio data in realtime. Its displays include
a 3D wireframe flying landscape, a 3D textured flying landscape, a 16-256
channel graphic EQ, three types of scopes, a 3D "spike" flying landscape,
and two forms of spectragrams. The 3D traces can be picked up, manipulated,
and displayed at nearly any angle. eXtace also features a 3D direction
control widget for controlling the angle and speed at which the trace runs
away and a gradient/colormap editor for changing the colormap to suit your
needs. No OpenGL is required.

Changes: This release has fixes so that it will build with newer versions
of Autoconf/Automake, as well as numerous small bugfixes. Users are
recommended to remove their ~/.eXtace/config files if they experience odd
behavior before submitting a bug report. An ALSA 0.5 precompiled version is
no longer available. The code is still there, you just have to build it
yourself from the source RPM or tarball.

plans are to include real support for analysis, reporting, remote console,
and on-the-fly sensor configuration. It is fully pluggable and hence
extremely flexible.

Changes: This release fixes a potential crash bug in ipopts decoding. Lots
of subtle bugs have been fixed in IP decoding and defragmentation. An
802.1q (VLAN) decode plugin has been added. The ASCII output module can now
log to separate files. The Linux capdev module now allows you to specify an
interface (or 'any'), and can also detect MTUs. Alerts can now be logged as
tcpdump files. The IP defragmentation plugin can now ignore packets with
TTLs that are too low (minttl option). Different output modules can be
configured depending on the type of alert.

GTK+ 2.0. gMUDix has all the features of MUDix and more, including ANSI
color mapping, aliasing, macros, paths, tab completions, timers, triggers,
variables, and an easy-to-use script language.

Changes: This release adds an optional auto-reconnect feature and a general
preference window, updates the input processor to support variables
(%variable_name), and fixes a minor bug that caused the connection error
dialog not to be shown anymore.

[028] - HTML::TextToHTML 0.03
  by Kathryn Andersen (http://freshmeat.net/users/kat/)
  Sunday, May 26th 2002 09:00

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML

About: HTML::TextToHTML converts plain text files into HTML. It supports
headings, tables, lists, simple character markup, and hyperlinking, and is
highly customizable. It recognizes some of the apparent structure of the
source document (mostly whitespace and typographic layout), and attempts to
mark that structure explicitly using HTML. This Perl module can be used
inside Perl scripts or called from the commandline, making it versatile and
easy to use.

Changes: HTML::TextToHTML now supports tables. The table-parsing was taken
from Gareth Rees's HTML::FromText module. Various rewriting was done to
support this. As a result, an additional method, process_para, enables one
to process a passed-in string, not just a file. The documentation was
improved. The do_help method was added and the behavior of help-related
options was changed. The --make_anchors option, which basically makes the
creation of anchors optional, was added. The sample links dictionary was
tweaked. Bold is now marked by #bold# text. Patterns now match across
multiple lines.

[057] - NekoHTML 0.6.2
  by Andy Clark (http://freshmeat.net/users/andyc2/)
  Sunday, May 26th 2002 12:03

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: NekoHTML is a simple HTML scanner and tag balancer that enables Java
application programmers to parse HTML documents and access the information
using standard XML interfaces. The parser can scan HTML files and "fix up"
many common mistakes that human (and computer) authors make in writing HTML
documents. NekoHTML is written using the Xerces Native Interface (XNI) that
is the foundation of the Xerces2 implementation. This enables application
programmers to use the NekoHTML parser with existing XNI tools without
modification or rewriting code.

Changes: The tag balancer bug introduced in the previous version was fixed.
The scanner was modified to report malformed start elements and bare
less-than characters as text.

[058] - new 1.3.0
  by W. Michael Petullo (http://freshmeat.net/users/flyn/)
  Sunday, May 26th 2002 18:41

Software Development

About: new is a template system, especially useful in conjunction with a
simple text editor such as vi. The user maintains templates which may
contain format strings. At run time, new replaces the format strings in a
template with the appropriate values to create a new file.

Changes: This is the first release from a new unstable branch. Several new
modifiers were added, and the modifier code was simplified. Templates may
now include standard headers, making template maintenance easier. Files
containing additional key/value mappings are now supported.

[070] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 1.2.2
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Sunday, May 26th 2002 01:46

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into
runnable C code. It allows you to insert function calls at any point in
your regular language, and to control the non-determinism in the resulting
machines. It understands concatenation, union (the "or" operator), kleene
star, subtraction, and intersection, as well as some helpers like "!", "?"
and "+". Ragel's finite state machines are closed under all of its
operators. This property allows for arbitrary regular lanuages to be
described. It can be used to create a parser for any language that is

Management Office/Business

About: WebGUI is a platform built to allow average business users to build
and maintain complex Web sites. It is modular, pluggable, and platform
independent. It was designed to allow the people who create the content to
manage it online, rather than content management taking up the time of busy
IT Staff. Whether you are building a consumer site, an intranet, or an
extranet, WebGUI has something to offer.

Changes: The "^Env();" macro, the "^ThumbnailLinker();" macro, a Swedish
translation, an HTML segment filter, a wobjects interface, and the magical
"Everyone" group were added. File sizes were added to the download manager.
Anti-caching meta tags are now used while in admin mode. The Real Objects
Edit-On Pro editor is now supported. The "^r;" macro was changed to allow
for a configurable style. The FAQ, Link List, Download Manager, and Events
Calendar now allow inline editing of their data. ImageMagick is now
optional. All wobjects that have collateral data now have a "proceed"
option to continue adding data, making data entry easier.
