  Saturday, May 25th 2002 00:42

Text Processing :: Markup :: SGML Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: AlcoveBook DTD and stylesheets is a strict subset of the DocBook
DTD. The ultimate goal is to provide a series of DTDs for enterprise use,
commercial proposal, whitepaper, etc. For now, this is one single SGML
DTD. The stylesheets are usable with both DocBook and AlcoveBook. They
include a set of extensions over Norman Walsh's modular docbook
stylesheets (docbook-dsssl), and a book- like layout for articles.

Changes: This release has been updated to work with sgml2x 0.99.5, and has
enhanced sgml2x definition files to take advantage of its new features.

About: AutoUpdate is a simple Perl script which performs a task similar to
Red Hat's up2date or autorpm. It can be used to automatically download and
upgrade RPMs from different FTP sites. Moreover, it can also be used to
keep a server with a customized (Red Hat) distribution plus all clients up
to date.

Changes: A new feature to allow RPMs to be installed from a comps file was
added.

[005] - BlackHole Spam/Virus Filter 0.9.98 (Stable)
  by Chris Kennedy (http://freshmeat.net/users/getdown/)
  Saturday, May 25th 2002 04:19

Communications :: Email Communications :: Email :: Filters Security

About: Blackhole Spam/Virus Filter provides spam and virus filtering using
dot-files in all the major MTA/SMTP servers for UNIX and similar systems.
It is easy for an individual user to set it up with shell account access
and configure. It is different from other, similar programs, in that it
executes a minimal number of programs to do the filtering, is able to use a
MySQL database for the users' configuration files, can be set up as the
queue in Qmail, and have virtual users' configuration files be found using
the username/domain for the recipient. Multiple checks are available, and
there open options on how to treat flagged email. There is logging to
multiple entities, auto-expiration of flagged email, and scoring available
so that multiple checks require matches that add up before blocking.

Changes: Added wildcard support in subject and header matching, the
[maxbytes] and [maxbytes_trunc] configuration options to set a maximum
message size to accept or truncate to, a [vdelete] option to not keep
viruses at all, an [sdelete] option to configure spam deletion from the
config file, and test_msg_virus and test_msg_spam functions to use for
testing blackholes with. A Courier SMTP server fix was made, as it was
exiting incorrectly when bouncing mail.

[009] - DirectVNC 0.6
  by Till Adam (http://freshmeat.net/users/tillsan/)
  Saturday, May 25th 2002 06:11

About: DirectVNC is a client implementing the remote framebuffer protocol
(rfb) which is used by VNC servers. What makes DirectVNC different from
other Unix VNC clients is that it uses the Linux framebuffer device through
the hardware accelerated DirectFB library, which enables it to run on
anything that has a framebuffer without the need for an X server.

Changes: This version adds support for tight and related encodings (JPEG,
zlib), which increases performance over slow links considerably when
connecting to TightVNC servers. Keyboard handling is much improved.

  Saturday, May 25th 2002 08:29

Communications :: Email Security :: Cryptography

About: Enigmailer allows you to send enciphered email with an optional
password hint. The recipient receives a mail message with a link to the
script to facilitate deciphering. It comes in two versions, one for
enciphering mail, the other also supporting multiple recipients, read
receipts, and logging to allow the recipient to verify the credentials of
the sender. Unlike other secure mail systems, it allows you to use your
existing email address rather than forcing you to setup and use yet another
one, and it does not require the recipient to have software installed on
their machine

Changes: This release fixes bugs related to maintenance of the authusers
file and adds new methods of maintaining the authusers file (allowing users
to maintain their own settings and new users to create accounts online).

[026] - libchipcard 0.4.2 (Stable)
  by aquamaniac (http://freshmeat.net/users/aquamaniac/)
  Saturday, May 25th 2002 18:06

System :: Hardware

About: Libchipcard is a C++ framework for easy access to
chipcards/smartcards via chip card terminals/readers. It uses the CTAPI
library provided by the manufacturer of the reader and provides a
filesystem on memory chip cards. It works under Linux, FreeBSD, and
Windows, and has been tested with Towitoko and Kobil readers even in
parallel.

Changes: Development info was added. Handling of destination directories
for manpages was improved. kCardDebugger was rewritten and has been
prepared to be extended by card specific modules in future versions (as a
side effect, it now scans faster). A bug in KLCSetup was fixed. The port
selector in KLCSetup is now editable, which is needed for unknown devices.
A man page for the configuration file libchipcard.conf was added. The
destination directory of KDE programs may now be given to "configure"
(--with-kde-prefix).

About: The VSTRING library provides vast set of string manipulation
features. It includes a dynamic String object that can be freely exchanged
with the standard char* type, so there is no need to change function calls
nor the implementation when you change from char* to String (and vice

String class has no visible methods (except operators). This means that it
is used in the same way is plain char* strings, but it will expand/shrink
as needed.

[059] - XMap 0.1
by Roberto Bertó aka DarkElder (http://freshmeat.net/users/darkelder/)

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: XMap is a PHP Class and a set of tools to automate HTML page
creation. It uses an XML file in which you can place all of your variables,
such as title, description, and keywords. It can generate a Navigation Bar
for your site and tell your page which HTML file to load as a menu. Its
main class is only a wrapper to another XPath class, PHPXML, that uses some
Xpath paths (called by XMap as Rules) and returns an array with the map
information.

[060] - XParam 1.2 (Main)
  by Michael Brand (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelbrand/)

Communications Software Development :: Libraries Software Development ::
Object Brokering

About: XParam is an extensible, type-safe, non-intrusive, object-oriented
tool for general-purpose object serialization and deserialization in C++,
good for parsing command-line parameters and cross-program/cross-platform
communication. It can handle named parameters as well as object streams. It
recognizes class hierarchies, abstract interfaces, and polymorphism, and
can therefore serve as a plug-in management framework (e.g., for strategy
management).

Changes: This version is a significant improvement over older versions. It
adds built-in support and syntax enhancements for maps, lists, and pairs,
as well as easy registration for user templates. The programmer now has
much more control over the registration process, in terms of timing and
feedback. Duplicate registration is no longer an error. All Unix
xp_config.h directives have been replaced by autoconf tests, in addition to
other small improvements and bugfixes.

[061] - Yet Another Filter Proxy 0.1.0
  by Andreas Gohr (http://freshmeat.net/users/agohr/)
  Saturday, May 25th 2002 10:19

Internet Internet :: WWW/HTTP System :: Networking

About: YAFP is a proxy to filter out advertising banners and malicious
script code from web sites. It is written in Perl and based on an example
by Randal L. Schwartz. For performance reasons it uses preforking to spawn
several processes of itself (like Apache does). Unlike other available
proxies (such as Junkbuster), it does blocking by Perl regular expressions
on the site content, which allows you to block JavaScript and popups, in
addition to normal ads.

Changes: This release features a complete rewrite of the filter mechanism
(with use of HTML::TreeBuilder), "pipethrough" of non.HTML content, faster
regexps (precompiled), and many minor enhancements.
