[001] - APC 1.1.0
  by George Schlossnagle (http://freshmeat.net/users/gschlossnagle/)
  Friday, August 17th 2001 22:03

About: APC (Alternative PHP Cache) was made to boost the performance of PHP
on heavily loaded sites by providing a way for scripts to be cached in a
compiled state, so that the overhead of parsing and compiling can be almost
completely eliminated. There are commercial products which provide this
functionality, but they are neither Open Source nor free. The goal is to
level the playing field by providing an implementation that allows greater
flexibility and is universally accessible.

Changes: A complete rework of the class inheritance code, fixes to shared
memory errors, fixes for clean-up when encountering parse errors, and
general efficiency fixes.

[004] - beancounter 0.3.1
  by Dirk Eddelbuettel (http://freshmeat.net/users/eddelbuettel/)
  Friday, August 17th 2001 01:30

Category: Office/Business :: Financial

About: beancounter enables stock market data analysis and performance
evaluation. It has two main modes. The first is data gathering - both
current data (e.g. closing prices, high, low, volume etc.), and historical
price data can be retrieved and stored in an SQL database via easy
command-line operations. The second mode is data analysis based on the
stored data. This comprises various performance reports as well as a
Value-at-Risk analysis. beancounter is implemented as a Perl module, and a
Perl command-line frontend to the module. It supports markets in North
America, Europe, and Asia.

Changes: Several SQL queries were rewritten to allow for imposition of
multiple selection contraints. Quotes from Yahoo! Europe can now reflect
the recent change to ';' as the CSV field seperator.

  by Xose (http://freshmeat.net/users/xose/)
  Friday, August 17th 2001 11:29

Categories: System, System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks, System ::
Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Beowulf includes an enhanced Linux kernel, libraries, and utilities
specifically designed for clustering. Beowulf provides a single system
image through BProc, the Beowulf cluster process management kernel
enhancement. BProc makes the processes running on cluster "Computation
Node" computers visible and manageable on a front-end "Master Node".
Processes start on the front-end node and migrate to a cluster node.
Process parent-child relationships and UNIX job control are maintained with
migrated tasks. Cluster slave nodes are not required to contain resident
applications. Their hard disks are used for application data and cache.
This approach eliminates version skew common with previous generation
clusters.

Changes: Alpha support was added, including a simplified, x86-like
installation. Myrinet and Gigabit are now supported. Web-based cluster
administration, cluster status, and job monitoring tools were added. Other
new features include hardware health and status monitoring support,
Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) support, a robust batch queuing/scheduler
with CLI, GUI, and Web-based interfaces, PXE boot capability, and support
for Parallel Virtual File System, NFSv3, and ROMIO. The Beosetup and
Beostatus tools were enhanced. This version is built on the 2.2.19 Linux
kernel. MPI support was updated via MPIch.

  Friday, August 17th 2001 11:39

Category: Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: The HTMLObject is a set of Perl modules which provide the ability to
create Dynamic HTML documents (Framesets, DHTML, etc.). You can generate
your code without having to do cookies first, then JavaScript, then the

[031] - Leech 0.3.2
  by Kars (http://freshmeat.net/users/karsmeyboom/)
  Friday, August 17th 2001 04:45

Category: Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Leech was developed to relieve one from having to go through sites,
constantly clicking "Save As...", "OK", etc. Instead, feed Leech a URL and
tell it which filetypes to download, and it will crawl through any page
that meets Leech's restrictions and dowload any file of the specified
type.

Changes: Added support for Web-servers that don't supply the resource's
file size in the header. Added the FillinForm() function. Now you can add a
bookmark to your javascript-enabled browser to get a leech form with the
URL of the page you were watching already filled in. Adapted Leech to use
the new Forms module. Fixed a bug in the main loop - Leech no longer runs
amok when it runs out of links.

  Friday, August 17th 2001 04:19

Category: System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Linux is a clone of the Unix kernel, written from scratch by Linus
Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the
Net. It aims towards POSIX and Single UNIX Specification compliance. It has
all the features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix kernel,
including true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand
loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory management, and
TCP/IP networking.

Changes: Pulled Linus buffer.c/mem fixes into 2.4.8-ac, made writeout
smoother on zone specific shortages, fixed an md oops, AD1848 isapnp
handling, sr_ioctl capacity reporting fix, Starfire update, cmpci update,
UDF update, fixed delete BUG() trap, moved nmi defines so asm/irq.h isnt
required, added experimental requirement to intermezzo, fixed missing
include, small eepro100 test updates, Reiserfs transaction tracking update,
updated vfs_permission, handle root exec weirdness, first piece of the
CyberPro 5050 audio merge, and tidied i810_audio cornercases of OSS

  Friday, August 17th 2001 04:17

Category: Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Weather Plotter is a program for anyone who likes to gather, track,
and look at historical weather data. It uses PHP to gather weather
information from the US National Weather Service Web site on an hourly
basis, then allows you to view that weather data in several convenient
graphical charts within your Web browser. Charts are generated in real-time
using the PNG format, and can be easily customized. Supports PostgreSQL,
MySQL, Oracle, Access, MSSQL, and others for data storage.

Changes: A new, fully-customizable combo graph that allows users to plot
any aspect (min, max, average) of any of the seven data series by hour,
day, month, or year over a user-defined period of time, all on a single
graph has been added - great for visualizing relationships between
different weather variables. We've also added a 48-hour forecast vs.
actuals comparison to the statistics page, in addition to a few more
humidity-related stats.

[060] - which 2.13
  by Carlo Wood (http://freshmeat.net/users/aleric/)
  Friday, August 17th 2001 01:28

Categories: System :: Systems Administration, Utilities

About: Which is a utility that prints out the full path of the executables
that bash(1) would execute when the passed program names would have been
entered on the shell prompt. It does this by using the exact same algorithm
as bash. Tildes and a dot in the PATH are now expanded to the full path by
default. Options allow to rather print "~/*" or "./*" and/or to print all
exectuables that match any directory in PATH.

Changes: Added support for Bourne Shell Functions. The alias must be
changed into a shell function (see documentation), and the rpm does this
automatically for you, but be sure to remove any alias that you might have
in your .bashrc.

[063] - Zebra 0.92
  by Kunihiro Ishiguro (http://freshmeat.net/users/kunihiroishiguro/)
  Friday, August 17th 2001 01:37

About: GNU Zebra manages IPv4 and IPv6 routing protocols. It supports BGP-4
protocol as described in RFC1771 (A Border Gateway Protocol 4) and BGP-4+,
RIPv1, RIPv2, RIPng, OSPFv2 and OSPFv3. GNU Zebra has a good client
interface, so the user can change configuration dynamically.

Changes: IPv4 multicast and IPv6 unicast configuration is changed to so
called new config. All of AFI and SAFI specific configuration is moved to
"address-family" node. When you have many IPv6 only configuration, you will
see many "no neighbor X:X::X:X activate" line in your configuration to
disable IPv4 unicast NLRI exchange. In that case, please use "no bgp
default ipv4-unicast" command to suppress the output. Until zebra-0.93, the
old config is still left for compatibility. Internal interface treatment is
changed. Now ospfd can handle multiple IP address for an interface.
