[001] - Alternate Password Library 1.1.1
  by Steve Slaven (http://freshmeat.net/users/bpk/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 10:33

About: The library can be used by developers to quickly add alternate
passwd file support for virtual authentication, or by system administrators
to trick programs into seeing a different password file, either at run time
through the LD_PRELOAD variable, or at compile time with -laltpw during the
linking process.

Changes: Missing distribution documentation was added, as well as new
documenation about using passwd.switch and autoconf style programs.

[002] - Astaro Security Linux 1.940 (Beta)
  by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 11:18

Category: System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is a new firewall solution. It does stateful
packet inspection filtering, content filtering, user authentication, virus
scanning, VPN with IPSec and PPTP, and much more. With its Web-based
management tool, WebAdmin, and the ability to pull updates via the
Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on a special hardened
Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running in change-roots and
are protected by kernel capabilities.

Changes: Some small bugfixes were made in WebAdmin and MiddleWare. 1.940 is
the last beta version before the final 2.0 release.

[003] - BitTorrent 2.0.2 (Stable)
  by Bram Cohen (http://freshmeat.net/users/bramcohen/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 01:02

About: BitTorrent is a tool for copying files from one machine to another.
FTP punishes sites for being popular. Since all uploading is done from one
place, a popular site needs big iron and big bandwidth. With BitTorrent,
clients automatically mirror files they download, making the publisher's
burden almost nothing.

Changes: The UI has been rewritten to be very simple and easier to use.

  by jwy (http://freshmeat.net/users/jwy/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 11:42

About: gtkmail is a GUI gtkmm email client for Linux. It features full MIME
support, mail fetching and filtering, and a multiwindow interface.

Changes: This is a fully functional release. It supports both local (mbox)
and remote (IMAP) mailboxes. IMAP communication can take place either
through raw TCP or SSL, given server support. PGP crypto is available
through gnupg. There is also an automagic spam-forwarding feature. It tries
to find out where the spam came from, and writes a complaint letter to the
spammer's ISP. The UI features simultaneous access to multiple mailboxes,
and is massively multithreaded. Actions within a mailbox are both
prioritized and queued.

About: HPA's TFTP Daemon is a port of the OpenBSD TFTP server (which in
turn is the stock BSD TFTP server with a number of security improvements)
to non-BSD operating systems (primarily Linux, but it should work on most
modern Unices). It has been enhanced to support TFTP options and better
handle broken embedded TFTP clients.

Changes: Portability has been improved, and an illegal memory access bug
during "totally insecure mode" (no chroot, no restricted paths) has been
fixed.

[020] - IRC Stats v13
  by Walter Campbell (http://freshmeat.net/users/wcampbel/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 21:45

Category: Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat

About: IRC Stats provides statistical services for various IRC daemons. It
supports Hybrid/Comstud (5, 6, comstud 1.x, CSr, OPN dancer, 7), IRCnet

StatServ, a spam detector, flood protection, HTML output, and optional
JUPE. It fully supports many Hybrid 6 and 7 extensions.

Changes: Administrative functions (login/jupe/quote/shutdown/restart) are
controlled by the AdminServ client. SplitServ's logging has been cleaned
up. The HTML dump is generated from a template file, see html/README for
more information. DPATH must be set for the service to start. 2.10 support
has been completely cleaned up. An issue with Hybrid 7 and TRACK_VERSION
has been documented. Support for OPN (Dancer) has been updated, and the TLD
handling has been cleaned up. Old TLD files are not compatible.

[023] - Java Serialization to XML 0.8.18
  by Brendan Macmillan (http://freshmeat.net/users/yow/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 04:58

About: JSX provides your Java programs with XML persistence and
data-exchange for zero-effort. As a replacement for Java's own
Serialization, it works for all objects without any set-up. You need not
change your classes or design schema or write scripts (unlike design-time
solutions such as JAXB, Jato, and Castor). Other run-time solutions (such
as JOX and LTPforJB) only work for a subset of objects (e.g. Java Beans).
JSX works for all objects, handles evolution of classes, and needs no
design-time setup at all. It just works.

Changes: It is no longer necessary to call the defaultReadObject() in an
object's readObject() method.

[027] - lesspipe.sh 1.22
  by Wolfgang Friebel (http://freshmeat.net/users/friebel/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 04:56

About: lesspipe.sh is an input filter for the pager less as described in
less's man page. The script runs under a ksh-compatible shell (ksh, bash,
zsh) and allows you to use less to view compressed files, archives, and
files contained in archives. The following formats are currently supported
(both as plain and compressed files using compress, gzip, bzip2, or zip):
tar, nroff, (sh)ar, executables, directories, RPM and Debian (.deb)
Archives, Microsoft Word, files and PDF-Files.

Changes: Added support for removable media via the /dev/xxx files, as well
as support for unmounted DOS Filesystems, using the mtools command suite.
Now recognizes file type "... text executable" as text, not as binary. Some
other small changes have been made.

[028] - libferris 0.6.0
  by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 11:12

About: libferris is a Virtual file system implementation that relies quite
a lot on the Extended Attributes (EA) paradigm. The design is also flexible
enough to allow internet protocols to integrate, providing C++ IOStreams
and EA about each object. The design is somewhat influenced by JNDI.

Changes: libferris now uses and includes a copy of Loki from the Modern C++
Design book by Alexandrescu. SmartPtr objects with a specialized intrusive
COM-like reference counting scheme are now used instead of
IntrusiveFerrisHandles. Command line options for controlling logging were
added, as well as popt integration to allow clients to set the level of
debug that ferris sends to syslog. NullStream and null_streambuf were
added, complete with inline inserter operator<< for high-speed null
ostreams. The seeking operations in the restricted istream class were
improved. createSubContext() was added to edb context.

[033] - Medusa DS9 0.8.1
  by Milan Pikula (http://freshmeat.net/users/www/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 11:34

Categories: Security, System

About: Medusa DS9 is used to increase Linux's security. It consists of two
major parts, Linux kernel changes and the user-space daemon. Kernel changes
do the monitoring of syscalls, filesystem actions, and processes, and they
implement the communication protocol. The security daemon communicates with
the kernel using the character device to send and receive packets. It
contains the whole logic and implements the concrete security policy. That
means that Medusa can implement any model of data protection; it depends
only on configuration file, which is in fact a program in the internal
programming language, somewhat similiar to C.

Changes: Several bugs found in the alpha release were fixed. This version
contains Constable and the VS monitor (kernel patch) for Linux 2.2.19 and
2.4.7.

[035] - Moosic 1.1
  by daniel pearson (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpearson/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 21:37

Category: Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: Moosic is a music player that focuses on easy playlist management.
It consists of a server process that maintains a queue of music files to
play and a client program which sends commands to the server. The server
continually runs through its playlist, popping items off the top of the
list and playing each with an external program. The client is a simple
command-line utility which allows you to perform powerful operations upon
the server's queue, including the addition of whole directory trees,
automatic shuffling, and item removal according to regular expressions. The
server comes configured to play MP3, Ogg, MIDI, MOD, and WAV files.

Changes: The association of file types to player programs has been moved
into a separate configuration file. New commands were added, including
"filter", "history", "die", and "reconfig". The "--no-file-munge" option
was added. The dependency upon the external "date" command was removed. The
server now numbers the list of items in the playlist, and includes the
current song as item zero.

[036] - MOSIXVIEW 0.8
  by M. Rechenburg (http://freshmeat.net/users/waplocater/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 18:59

About: MOSIXVIEW, a GUI for MOSIX-Cluster, is a frontend for the most
common used mosctl commands. The Load-Balancing can be influenced by
"speed-sliders" and even remote processes are manageable. A
mosixview-client installed on every cluster-node gives additional options.

Changes: A "display-chooser" for the MOSIXVIEW-Client has been added. A
.spec file for each package has been added, allowing users to easily build
their own rpm-packages with 'rpm -bb mosixview.spec'. RPMs for
Mandrake-Linux are avaiable. MOXIVIEW has been tested and fixed with
QT-3-beta3. Binaries are automatically copied to /usr/bin by the "setup"
script. There are smaller bug fixes, and MOSIXVIEW has been lightly
optimized.

About: My Photo Gallery is a Web-based photo gallery that also supports
non-image filetypes. It is easy to setup and even easier to maintain.
Slick-looking image galleries and thumbnails are generated on the fly from
any root directory that you specify. Creating an album can be done by using
the included Web-based adiminstration tool or by creating a directory and
copying your pictures and files to that directory. A Web administration
interface is available to help add descriptions, rotate images, and more.

the underlying crypto libraries, so stunnel supports whatever cryptographic
algorithms you compiled into your crypto package.

Changes: A critical section was added around TCP Wrappers code that is not
MT-safe. A problem which produced a "select: Interrupted system call"
error was fixed. The use of errno was replaced with get_last_socket_error()
for Win32. Some FreeBSD/NetBSD patches were made to ./configure. The local
mode process PID is now logged. The default FQDN (localhost) was removed
from stunnel.cnf. ./configure was changed to recognize the POSIX threads
library on OSF. The -O option was added to set socket options.

Category: Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Supasite is a modular Web based content management system written
in PHP4, with a mySQL/XML backend. It provides a slick interface for
editing templates, adding news, and automatically generating Meta Tags.

Changes: A security hole that let users perform administrative tasks
without being logged in has been fixed. Old IF statements that kept the
List News function from displaying the subject of a post have been removed,
and a slight HTML error in settings.php has been fixed.

[059] - uDHCP Server/Client 0.9.2
  by Russ Dill (http://freshmeat.net/users/r2600/)
  Friday, August 10th 2001 22:41

Category: System :: Networking

About: uDHCP Server/Client is an embedded DHCP client and server that can
be compiled seperately (17k each), or as one combined binary (25k). The
server stores its lease file periodically, or by a signal (for systems
with flash memory) in terms of absolute time of lease expiration, or time
remaining in a lease (for systems with no clocks). The client calls helper
scripts to do the work of configuring the interfaces for more
flexibility.

Changes: The udhcpc cilent uses raw sockets to accept packets while the
network interface is deconfigured. The client also sends a parameter list
for certain stubborn DHCP servers.

Categories: Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera, Multimedia
:: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based, Multimedia :: Video :: Capture

About: Video4jmax is a group of plugins for jMax that add the ability to
process N-dimensional arrays ("Grids"), with a focus on images and video.
There are several levels you can work at, depending on what you want.
Within jMax, use predetermined effects bundled with Video4jmax, or create
your own effects from Video4jmax's grid processors. Use jMax control
objects to do whatever you can't do with grid processors, and connect them
to grid processors using @import. Finally in C, write new grid processor
classes.

Changes: A configuration script which detects video4linux 1.x was added.
Documentation in HTML format was added. A file format API was added.
Read-write is now supported for PPM P6 RGB24. Read-only support is
available for Targa RGB24. Video4linux reading is now supported (using only
the read() command). @store no longer slows down its downstream. Many other
accelerations were made. @ now supports grids in the right inlet. There are
now 20 binary operators. Internally, Tuple was changed to Dim, Index was
removed, and the Grid element type wass typedefed to Number.
