  by 6 (http://freshmeat.net/users/num6/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 04:49

Category: Communications :: File Sharing

About: 6's Spiffy AudioGalaxy Query Tool is a package that automates
queries to the AudioGalaxy music sharing system. It enables you to queue
any song (at a minimum configurable bitrate) with one command line, even
if the AudioGalaxy site is busy or unresponsive. It will also allow you to
queue most full albums with one command line, by going on AllMusic.Com to
look up the song list, and queueing up each of the songs listed.

Changes: There is now an error message that appears if an error occurs
creating the "am" log file. Changed to deal with AudioGalaxy's new Web page
structure.

[007] - ARSC Really Simple Chat 1.0beta1
  by Manuel Kiessling (http://freshmeat.net/users/pgod/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 22:21

About: ARSC Really Simple Chat is a Web chat system that uses PHP and MySQL
and works with nearly every browser that supports frames. It is really
simple. It features no colors, no nickname reservation, no images, just
pure chat. However, rooms and different languages are available. To run
ARSC on your site, you need a Web server that understands PHP and can
connect to a MySQL database. On login you can choose between a version that
works with JavaScript, or a version that uses plain HTML only. Using an
installation script, ARSC can be set up in a few seconds.

Changes: This release features "server push", session handling, operators,
/kick-ing, whispering, a lynx-friendly version, way more comfortable
message posting, an in-chat help, more precise timing (microseconds), and
immediate logout. This is a beta release of the first stable release.

[009] - bbkeys 0.8.2
  by Jason Kasper (vanRijn) (http://freshmeat.net/users/vanrijn/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 19:43

Category: Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: bbkeys is the keygrabber for the blackbox window manager. bbkeys
handles all keybindings and keyboard shortcuts for blackbox. It uses
blackbox's Image classes for rendering its look and feel so that bbkeys
will render itself to match whatever blackbox style is used. It is highly
configurable either via the included bbkeysconf GUI utility or by
hand-editting bbkeys's config file.

Changes: This release contains several bugfixes and enhancements. Window
cycling now makes sense, and there are configuration options to pop up a
window list menu as you cycle, so you can see what window you're cycling
from/to, as well as an option to cycle through all of the windows (sticky
windows are included) on all workspaces. This is a very significant
improvement.

  by Stevo Ondrejicka (http://freshmeat.net/users/ondrej/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 16:06

About: ChBg is for changing desktop backgrounds in a given period. It can
render images with 10 modes (such as tiled, centered, scaled, etc.). It
uses Imlib1, Imlib2, or gdk_pixbuf for loading images, so it supports many
image formats. ChBg has a windowed setup program, is able to load setup
files, can be used as slideshow picture previewer in its own window or as a
desktop background, and can be used as screensaver or as an xscreensaver
hack. It has a dialog for fast previewing of pictures and very usable
thumbnail previews.

Changes: This version is able to work when Nautilus or KDE2 manages desktop
backgrounds. It is able to generate pictures into a file instead of an X
window. There are new config files for gnomecc
screensaver-properties-capplet. It can now also be used for changing the
background of terminals like rxvt, aterm, etc. There are also some minor
bugfixes related to Enlightenment support and scenario file handling.

[014] - DECnet for Linux 2.13
  by Patrick Caulfield (http://freshmeat.net/users/patrickc/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 11:09

About: The DECnet for Linux project aims to provide the kernel-level socket
layer and a set of applications to allow Linux systems to participate in a
DECnet phase IV network. It currently has an application library (suitable
for building DECnet functionality into X11R6), file and terminal access.

Changes: The use of the __GLIBC__ macro was fixed. Binary keys are now
allowed in librms. A debugging printf was removed from the dnet_conn
function. makedepend is no longer used for dependencies. The symlinks for
the dn_accept man page were fixed. Minor source code fixes were made to
allow clean compilation with GCC 3.0. A crash which occurred in libdap if
the first byte of a message was the last byte of a packet has been fixed.
Man page symlinks were added for dnet_accet/dnet_reject and
dnet_endnode/dnet_nextnode. FAL now correctly uses metadata for
block-structured files. The Debian distribution was split into 4 packages.

[015] - DOmain Tracking Made Easy 0.1.2 (development)
  by Mirko Caserta (http://freshmeat.net/users/mcaserta/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 14:29

About: Dotme allows you to easily configure domains at your site. It
touches bind and sendmail config files and reloads them for the changes to
take effect. It's written in C, has a MySQL DB backend, and a web
interface written in PHP. By design Dotme should work in a multiuser
environment. It lacks some things such as a configure script and some
bells and whistles but it does its job.

Changes: The Makefile now has an 'install' rule. src/init.c has been fixed.
Since BIND has changed its PID file default location, this should be
correctly handled now. Missing free() calls in src/panic.c and src/queue.c
have been fixed. get_fld() has been added to bind.c, which should later
make the configuration of primary and secondary name servers easier.

[033] - HTMLSpinnr's PhotoDisplay 2.61 (Stable)
  by HTMLSpinnr (http://freshmeat.net/users/htmlspinnr/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 16:02

Categories: Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content, Multimedia :: Graphics
:: Presentation

About: HTMLSpinnr's PhotoDisplay takes JPEG images from a directory, and
displays them in a neat and orderly fashion. This script will automatically
generate thumbnails using a seperate frame, and will create a
bandwidth-friendly resized image, depending on the size of the original.
The script uses ImageMagick to perform its image manipulation. It supports
embedded JPEG comments, external HTML comments, sortfiles, and slideshows.
It features many user-configurable options, including maximum image size
before resizing occurs, dynamic (browser) stretching/shrinking,
customizable links, header and footer files, and more. It requires a Web
server with PHP 4.x and ImageMagick 5.x, and it has been successfuly tested
under both Linux and Win32. PhotoDisplay is based on Martin's Photo Frame
2.1.

Changes: The image comment string has been changed for compatability
purposes (some systems would display %c as the result instead of the
embedded JPEG comment). An overall cleaner implementation is now used for
getting the image comment.

[041] - Java Serialization to XML 0.8.17
  by Brendan Macmillan (http://freshmeat.net/users/yow/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 04:43

About: JSX provides your Java programs with XML persistence and
data-exchange for zero-effort. As a replacement for Java's own
Serialization, it works for all objects without any set-up. You need not
change your classes or design schema or write scripts (unlike design-time
solutions such as JAXB, Jato, and Castor). Other run-time solutions (such
as JOX and LTPforJB) only work for a subset of objects (e.g. Java Beans).
JSX works for all objects, handles evolution of classes, and needs no
design-time setup at all. It just works.

Changes: The writeReplace() method of serialized objects is now called.
This fixes the "BigInteger" bug, and completes implementation of all the
methods in serialized objects that serialization can call (that is, the
Serialization callback API that target objects may implement).

[047] - Lesstif 0.93.0
  by Danny Backx (http://freshmeat.net/users/dannybackx/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 04:54

About: LessTif is an LGPL'd implemention of the OSF/Motif standard GUI
toolkit for X11. LessTif aims to be source compatible with the OSF/Motif
versions 1.2 and 2.1. Currently 1.2 support is almost complete and most
Motif 1.2 apps should compile and run out of the box, whilst 2.1 still has
very little functionality.

Changes: Some bugfixes have been made, and there has been further
development of DtPrintSetupBox. Support for XmTextFieldSetHighlight() has
been added, and there is an additional resource for XmSpinBox. Note that
this release is still based on older versions of the auto* tools (libtool
1.3.5, automake 1.4-p4, autoconf 2.13), because of trouble that we have to
reliably get all the recent versions to work across all the platforms
currently used by the core team. It is advised that you obtain recent
versions of libtool and autoconf, and use the CVSMake script.

[061] - PhysicsFS 0.1.1
  by icculus (http://freshmeat.net/users/icculus/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 15:59

Categories: Software Development :: Libraries, System :: Filesystems

About: PhysicsFS is a library to provide abstract access to various
archives. The programmer defines a "write directory" on the physical
filesystem. No file writing done through the PhysicsFS API can leave that
write directory, for security. For file reading, the programmer lists
directories and archives that form a "search path". Once the search path
is defined, it becomes a single, transparent, hierarchical filesystem.
This makes for easy access to ZIP files in the same way as you access a
file directly on the disk, and it makes it easy to ship a new archive
that will override a previous archive on a per-file basis. Symbolic links
can be disabled, for added safety. Finally, PhysicsFS gives you a
platform- abstracted means to determine if CD-ROMs are available, the
user's home directory, where in the real filesystem your program is
running, etc.

Changes: Support for enumerating mounted CD-ROMs in the Unix version has
been added, making it completely implement the API specification.

[073] - Sophie 1.13
  by Vanja Hrustic (http://freshmeat.net/users/vanja/)
  Wednesday, August 8th 2001 15:29

Categories: Security, System

About: Sophie is a daemon which uses 'libsavi' library from Sophos anti
virus vendor ( http://www.sophos.com ). On startup, Sophie initializes SAPI
(Sophos Anti-Virus Interface), loads virus patterns into memory, opens
local UNIX domain socket, and waits for someone to connect and instructs it
which path to scan. Since the database is loaded in RAM, scanning is very
fast. (Note: speed of scanning also depends on SAVI settings and size of
the file.) It works on Linux, Solaris (Sparc/x86), HP-UX, and FreeBSD. It
was made as a part of 'Virge' project, which is a mail/attachment/virus
scanning tool, written in C.

Changes: Sophie can now process more than one request/file per connection.

Categories: Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content, Software Development

About: Tapestry is a rich, component-based object model for developing
dynamic, highly interactive Web applications. It simplifies Web application
development by organizing an application into pages of components. Tapestry
takes care of all the "plumbing" of a Web application, including generating
URLs and responding to links and form submissions. This means that the code
written by developers is almost all application specific. Tapestry includes
a complete Java build environment, based on GNU Make, extensive

About: X-Chat is a fully-featured graphical IRC client using the GTK
toolkit. Optionally it can be compiled to use GNOME and Perl scripting.

Changes: A safeguard to stop recursive user commands was added. Two new
/set variables were added: dialog_width and dialog_height. Fixes were made
for the problem where kick messages showed only the first word of the
reason, for the GTK warnings thrown up when closing a dialog window, for a
bug in sending quit reasons, and for a problem with handling op/voice modes
that caused halfops to appear in the userlist when using bahamut. Kanji
conversion is now turned on when the locale is ja. About 40k memory was
saved when loading .conf files. When changing fonts, the change now affects
the inputbox without having to restart. An "Auto Accept DCC Send" menu item
crash on Win32 was fixed.
