[001] - Apache Toolbox 1.5.16 (Default)
  by IO (http://freshmeat.net/users/bandrews/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 14:37

Apache Toolbox provides a means to easily compile Apache (IPv4/6) SSL,
PHP(v3/v4), MySQL, Jakarta, a large number of modules (55 3rd party modules
and 36 default Apache modules, static or as DSOs), and GD libraries with
PNG+JPEG+Freetype2+zlib support. It is fully customizable and menu-driven.
Everything is compiled from source, and wget is used to download any
missing modules. It can also check for RPMs that might cause problems and
create an RPM with your selections.

Changes: Updates to mod_gzip and APC, small updates to PHP+PostgreSQL and
mod_frontpage, and a fix for a bug with libmcrypt.

[002] - atool 0.4.0 (Default)
  by Oskar Liljeblad (http://freshmeat.net/users/osk/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 05:33

atool is a script for managing file archives of various types (tar,
tar+gzip, zip, etc). The main command is probably 'aunpack' which extracts
files from an archive. It overcomes the dreaded "multiple files in archive
root" problem by first extracting to a unique subdirectory, and then moving
back the files if possible. aunpack also prevents local files from being
overwritten by mistake. Other commands provided are apack (for creating
archives), als (for listing files in archives), and acat (for extracting
files to stdout).

Changes: Some bugs introduced in 0.3.0 have been fixed. Support for jar
archives has been added, and the code has been somewhat cleaned up.

[004] - ccaudio 0.3.0 (Default)
  by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 19:13

ccaudio is a simple, highly portable, stand-alone, C++-based framework for
manipulation of audio data. Its goal is to be a C++ framework that as
useful as 'audiofile' or 'sndfile' is for C programming, and to cover
various generic and useful manipulations of audio data as well as audio
file access. ccaudio compiles both under Unix and Win32 systems.

Changes: This release adds virtualization of I/O methods so the AudioFile
base class can be combined with alternate I/O sources, such as Common C++
URLStream.

[011] - GNU Pth 1.4.0 (Default)
  by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 14:30

GNU Portable Threads (Pth) is a very portable POSIX/ANSI-C based library
for Unix platforms providing non-preemptive priority-based scheduling for
multiple threads of execution ("multithreading") inside server
applications. All threads run in the same address space, but each thread
has its own individual program-counter, run-time stack, signal mask and
errno variable. The scheduling is done in a cooperative way, i.e. the
threads are dispatched based on priority and pending events. The event
facility allows threads to wait until various types of events occur,
including pending I/O on filedescriptors, elapsed timers, pending I/O on
message ports, thread and process termination, and even customized callback
functions.

Changes: Support for non-standard but required sys/select.h, a new
if-clause feature for config.param files, RPM specification (pth.spec) in
the source tree, additional I/O functions
pth_{recv,recvfrom,send,sendto}[_ev](), additional replacement function
pth_system(), new self-contained pth_[v][a]sprintf() replacement functions,
an upgrade to GNU shtool 1.5.2 and GNU libtool 1.3.5, support for DESTDIR
installation variable, etc.

[012] - gnuboy 0.9.9 (Development)
  by Laguna (http://freshmeat.net/users/laguna/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 06:28

gnuboy emulates the Color GameBoy handheld console in portable C, with
interfaces for X11, Linux fbcon and svgalib, SDL, DOS, and Windows, with
other ports planned in the future. Compatibility with ROMs tested is around
99 percent, and all major hardware features except SGB extensions are
supported. With the optional optimized i386 assembly code, gnuboy can run
at the full 60 FPS even on Pentium/75s and below. No special libraries are
required to compile, and gnuboy is known to build on many *nix variants.

Changes: A major bug was fixed that could cause saved states to be loaded
incorrectly, sometimes rendering them useless or difficult to recover.
Various fixes have been made in the SDL sound code, and fullscreen mode may
now work on Windows. The DOS port is now entirely thinlib-based; it
supports more video modes (although the method of selecting them is
slightly different) and should handle keyboard input much better, without
the occasional stuck key problems that some users experienced before.
Various optimizations have also been made to the graphics code, improving
performance noticably on low-end systems.

[015] - Intelligent FRAC 1.3.0 (Default)
  by Michael Glickman (http://freshmeat.net/users/michg/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 11:47

Intelligent FRAC is a Linux release of an old 3D packing game with new
features. It is available in svgalib and X11 implementations. It supports
all colour modes from 4 to 32bpp, therefore will run on any video card,
even those not supported directly by svgalib. The X11 module can run in
window (X11 generic) and full screen (XFree86-DGA 2.0) modes by changing
and restoring video mode, if necessary. Other features include a cool look,
joystick support, an option to choose your favourite music to play for each
game stage, volume control, and a demo mode.

Changes: This release adds score submission to the world-wide score table
(in the precompiled binary only), makes a slight change to scoring and boss
mode, and fixes numerous bugs.

[018] - IRMP3 0.4.3-pre5 (Default)
  by David Potter (http://freshmeat.net/users/dpotter/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 14:13

IRMP3 is a multimedia audio jukebox for Linux. IRMP3's strength is that it
easily integrates into home, car, and mobile environments (where a
keyboard/screen interface may not always be available). It supports several
input and display devices such as infrared remote controls, LCD displays,
network connections, and serial keypads. It includes a robust set of tools

[023] - Linux Intrusion Detection System 0.9.14 for 2.2.18 (Default)
  by Huagang Xie (http://freshmeat.net/users/xhg/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 14:21

The Linux Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) is a patch which enhances the
kernel's security by implementing a reference monitor and Mandatory Access
Control (MAC). When it is in effect, chosen file access, all system/network
administration operations, any capability use, raw device, memory, and I/O
access can be made impossible even for root. You can define which programs
can access specific files. It uses and extends the system capabilities
bounding set to control the whole system and adds some network and
filesystem security features to the kernel to enhance the security. You can
finely tune the security protections online, hide sensitive processes,
receive security alerts through the network, and more.

Changes: New Inheritance Level (TTL) features from 1.0.6, updates to
lidsadm and its manpage, and a fix for a network error.

[026] - MuSE Streamer 0.5.2 (Default)
  by jaromil (http://freshmeat.net/users/jaromil/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 11:38

MuSE aims to be an application for the mixing, encoding, and network
streaming of sound. It can simultaneously mix up to 6 encoded audio
bitstreams (from files or a network) plus a soundcard input signal. The
resulting stream can be played locally on the sound card and/or encoded as
an MP3 bitstream and sent to a broadcast server. MuSE offers an intuitive
interface for realtime operation and can run in "batch" mode or by
receiving remote commands through a network.

Changes: There's no more need for the xaudio library; now the source comes
with libmpeg included in the tree for decoding MP3 and is 100% free.
Features like vumeter, speed, and song time have been deactivated, so this
is supposed to be a more stable release. Code cleanups and updates to the
config script have been done as well.

[030] - OMNI Driver Model for Ghostscript Printing 0.0.7.5 (devel)
  by Steve Fox (http://freshmeat.net/users/drfickle/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 01:15

The OMNI printer driver provides support for over 250 printers using the
Ghostscript framework. In addition, it provides a model for dynamically
loading printer drivers, creating new devices by editing device description
files, and simplifies new printer driver development by allowing for the
subclassing of previous device features.

Changes: A new option has been added to Ghostscript. It is
-dPelSizeCorrection=xxx where xxx is a number. If you are printing black &
white line art images then use 0 for no pel removal. Otherwise, leave it
alone. It is for advanced usage. listDeviceJobPropertyKeys () to the Device
class has been added. This will return an enumeration that lists all of the
device dependent job properties that are supported. Binary data error
handling in OmniDomParser.cpp has been fixed.

[034] - PIKT 1.13.0pre6 (Default)
  by berto (http://freshmeat.net/users/robertoste/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 14:45

PIKT is a cross-platform, multi-functional toolkit for monitoring systems,
reporting and fixing problems, and managing system configurations. It
consists of an embedded scripting language with unique, labor-saving
features, a script and system config file preprocessor, a scheduler, an
installer, and other tools.

Changes: Added the #setdef and '!'-variant define preprocessor directives.
Introduced a new prototype utility, piktx, for doing 'piktc -x' like
operations from any system with no concurrency restrictions. (See the NEWS
file for the piktx prototype.) Introduced several new piktc options, and a
couple new PIKT.conf settings. Fixed a bug where, if standard directories
between master and slave differ, files might not get installed or otherwise
handled properly. Fixed some long-standing problems with timing/sequencing
of parent and child processes. Fixed a bug where non-existent #include
files might cause piktc to dump core. Improved debug logging. Fixed various
minor bugs.

[035] - Plasma EBG 0.26.08 (Main-linux)
  by Konstanty (http://freshmeat.net/users/metaplasma/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 11:52

Plasma EBG is an empire building game with an isometric view. It runs in
multiple resolutions with graphics being displayed better for higher
resolutions; hence, lower resolutions do not suffer from being too large,
etc. Raw materials are the source of wealth, not money (as in Red Alert,
etc). To build buildings, you need wood from trees, stone from the ground,
etc. People are an important element, in that without a person unit, you
cannot control a vehicle, etc.

Changes: This release adds a preliminary save map function, a nicer and
easier-to-use UI, and speed improvements for the isometric view. It
includes the JPEG library (making size smaller -- ~2.3Mb uncompressed
instead of ~3.2), and SVGAlib (so it works straight from the package).

[036] - Procwatch 1.0 (Stable)
  by Andypoo (http://freshmeat.net/users/andypoo/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 02:08

Procwatch is security monitor written in Perl that watches a /proc
filesystem for new processes. When a process is created, procwatch reports
the time, the username, the PID, and the binary that was run. Its output is
suitable for logging to log files and is geared for system administrators
who are testing a new but as yet untrusted UNIX system. Although it cannot
detect, and is not proof against, hacked loadable kernel modules that have
modified /proc, it is useful in watching for possible rogue binaries.

[038] - rip 0.92 (Default)
  by Greg Smethells (http://freshmeat.net/users/smethegj/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 01:35

Rip is a commandline-based Perl script which rips Compact Disc tracks to
either Motion Picture Expert Group Layer 3 (MP3) files or Ogg Vorbis files
without user intervention between the steps of ripping. It supports
cdparanoia for ripping, BladeEnc, LAME, and GOGO for WAV to MP3 encoding,
oggenc for WAV to Ogg Vorbis encoding and CDDB for automatic renaming of
MP3 files.

Changes: This release fixes some outstanding bugs including a "--move" bug.
The script has also been cleaned up so that it validly passes checks when
using Perl's "use strict" and "use warnings" options. Flags which take
variable arguments no longer require a "=" symbol, such that both
"--move=~/mp3" and "--move ~/mp3" are legal syntax now. A "-g/--generate
DIR/LIST" flag has been added to create a playlist from the CD rip in DIR
(absolute pathname) with the name LIST. The "--move" flag should now work
with the "--lazy" and "--superlazy" flags correctly, by changing the
script's present working directory ($PWD) before doing any work.

[040] - STARTME 0.95.1 (Default)
  by garfycx (http://freshmeat.net/users/garfycx/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 06:31

Like Microsoft's SETUP.EXE, STARTME is the starter, parser, and interpreter
for the XML language DialogML. With DialogML you can define setup and
installation dialogs (similar to the tools dialog or dldialog but
complete, independent, flexible and for both textual and graphical
interfaces). STARTME is written in the POSIX standard awk to run out of
the box on any *nix system and thus can be distributed in packages. It is
thought to be an independent solution but also can check for other
interpreters automatically or via commandline parameters. This allows
STARTME to act as central and first product to be started by the user but
also to give way for better solutions that may be installed on the user's
system.

Changes: On at least one system, the awk version did not like the coding
style. This problem should be resolved.

Tiny COBOL is an effort to bring a free COBOL compiler to Linux. It
generates GNU assembler for the i386 Linux platform. A executable binary is
then created using the GNU assembler and linker. The project is approaching
the first beta release with many statements already implemented.

Changes: This release contains bugfixes and enhancements, including updates
to the math verbs, the STRING statement, file IO READ/WRITE statements,
DISPLAY/ACCEPT statements, SET statement, and abbreviated conditional
expressions. Reference modification, pointer types, and EXTERNAL semantics
(preliminary) have been added to the compiler. The new preprocessor will
now execute by default. The Win32 (preliminary) platform, using the Cygwin
emulation layer, is now supported.

[050] - Xref-Java2Html 1.2.0 (Default)
  by Marian Vittek (http://freshmeat.net/users/vittek/)
  Saturday, March 24th 2001 11:33

Xref-Java2Html is a Java cross referencer and source documentator. It
converts Java sources into HTML hypertext with lexical units highlighted
by different colors, and symbols linked to their definitions to complete
cross-references. A relevant class subtree is generated for each virtual
method. It can also put @see javadoc tags into Java sources, so that the
documentation generated by javadoc contains links to sources.

Xrefactory is a refactoring source browser for Emacs/XEmacs providing basic
source navigation, intellisense code completion, on-line info on symbol
type, safe renaming, function argument manipulations, and extraction of a
piece of code into a separate function. Xrefactory is based on full
pre-processing, parsing, and static analyzing of sources. It works for C
and Java languages, and contains stand-alone cross referencer and generator
