Hi Pawel,
the fastest way to SYS a disk is to go to
http://freedos.sourceforge.net/ and get the kernel,
with or without FAT32 support (which MS DOS cannot
give you before the DOS of Windows). All kernels
contain LBA support for disks > 8 GB, too :-).
The .zip contains kernel.sys and sys:
SYS will write the bootsector and copy kernel.sys and
command.com (use for example FreeCOM command.com,
on the same download site, I recommend the XMS Swap version
with very low DOS memory footprint).
If you give SYS the BOOTONLY option, only the boot sector
will be written and you can copy the kernel and shell
manually, if you prefer that.
fdkernel.sys is only uses when you use the MetaKern boot menu
which is itself called kernel.sys, too, so that the kernel has
to be renamed to fdkernel.sys THEN.

Current SYS is not very flexible, e.g. you cannot resize or
move partitions without having to SYS again. Lucho already
has a SYS which no longer has this limitation, and which can
enable you to load the kernel from > 8 GB boundary even from
FAT32 partitions.

To use FreeDOS sys, any DOS session that allows accessing the floppy or
harddisk boot sector (whichever you want to sys) will do.
You can for example boot from ODIN (single floppy FreeDOS which
comes as a disk image, with the DISKCOPy of FreeDOS
which can write disk images), in the case that you
have no other DOS at hand.

Eric.
