I got the same failure while updating the other octave-atlas packages
as well. I have found out that for some reason /sw64/lib/libreadline.dylib
has disappeared. I solved the problem with the following symbolic link

/sw/lib/libreadline.dylib -> /sw/lib/libreadline.5.2.dylib

Could you provide the output of

ll /sw*/lib/libreadline*
