Sorry to bother folks with a brain dead question

I have installed php and mysql versions to match the RaQ version on 
my windows box

I'm unable to run some of the stuff from the server because it want 
to connect to localhost
and the MySql on my machine is saying it's on thombox

How can I get MySql locally to identify the server as localhost?

Obviously I missed something.
