Thanks for the prompt reply.
I am not using 4.5.x because, under Gentoo, that is not marked 'stable' in
Gentoo portage.
I will push for Gentoo to mark KDE 4.5 as stable (as opposed to ~x86 in gentoo
speak).
BTW. Rebuilding does fix the problem, for me. I generally assume it's because I
have had some underlying kde libraries re-built but maybe it's some config file
which is reset on re-build.
