Thank you. Amarok is indeed one of my several favorite applications.

"Brevity is a bug reporter's friend" - indeed, it is always hard to balance
brevity and precision/details. Usually I try to be brief, but then often get
curt answers from maintainers telling me that the report is useless without
further details...
"Some value judgments mixed in" - upon review, I see that this may be felt in
comments #3 and #5, but not in the initial bug report.

I have downgraded to version 1.4.10 which I happily (re-)discovered to be a
wonderful, functional application. But what I saw in version 1.9 is "exciting",
just not quite mature enough to be labeled "beta", in my opinion. Keep up the
good work and I will try again a bit later, according to the announcements on
amarok.kde.org. Probably, what I expect as beta (as opposed to alpha) releases
is now usually called "rc[1-9]".
