Can you be more specific about the failure and how it happened? You should
have the option not to install a boot loader if other operating systems are
present.

This was fixed yesterday; either use the current daily CD image, or allow it
to download updates from the network.

Are you sure that it failed? I have not seen such an error. Please send a
copy of /var/log/base-config.log when you have access to the machine again.
