I did a quick look at the Web Developer extension. My impression is that a lot 
of stuff like this could be done without changing the way the renderer works. 
You could add your custom style sheet and since you have access to the tree 
you can manipulate the nodes directly.
Before we interfere in the render engine we should explore what it possible 
from the outside.
