That's interesting to me. But note the known issue on karmic for RC 1,

"When using the RC1 disks on certain hardware (VirtualBox is one of
the problem platforms), X refuses to start, as it cannot find the
VirtualBox graphical driver. X should not even be attempting to load
that driver; this issue needs to be investigated."
