As additional information:

Writing info:dir in the konqueror address bar displays nothing, but makes the
"load spinning symbol" spin apparently forever.

This is an issue, because rekonq which is the only browser supporting the kio
info handler properly is not developed anymore, konqueror used to do info:dir
fine in the past, but regressed, and falkon does not support kio at all.
