The simplest way to launch an url in konqueror is to paste the address into the \
window using the MMB.

Unfortunately this does not work with
a) image viewers (http://localhost/image.png)
b) the empty start page (about:empty)

As this violates user expectations and consistency, I propose that at least the image \
viewer and the empty page accept pasted urls.
