Recently the problem that KMail and GnuPG deadlocked when a large 
message was verified/signed/encrypted was resolved.
I suppose the bug you reported is caused by the same problem.
Could you please try if KMail from KDE2.2alpha2 still freezes? 
Alternatively you could check if gpg is running when KMail freezes. And 
if this is the case you could try to kill gpg and report what happens.

BTW, KMail will currently only try to verify the first signed message.
