Thanks much for the input, and I did manage to get KDE 1.1 installed. However, I
did end up getting a "big hammer" and pounding it by using :
                    rpm --force --nodeps -Uvh <filename.rpm>

Had massive duplication of links which was easily correected, albeit time consuming
but it's in and working.
