Hi Chad,
the right packages for you (RH5.0) are the ones compiled for libc6! 
"Can't connect to X server" sounds like your X server is not running!?
Did you try to start the X session by typing startkde on the command
line??
Than you should perhaps reread the documentation. You have to write this
command to .xinitrc in your home directory and then start X with startx
as usual...
BTW if the error message is "Can't connect with X server" then your PATH
should be ok, as you seem to have started the kde program which gave the
message.
