FYI,

kde-3.5.5 will hit the "unstable" repo later today. Why "unstable" you
may ask? Mostly because of the experimental use of external kde-config*
pkgs that contain the default styles/themes (see ml thread "spinning
kde-3.5.5, proposed system defaults change(s), opinions?" from 10/09).
I could even document how these work if anyone is interested in creating
their own site-customized versions of these. (:

The default kde-config pkgs right now are pretty generic (ie, doesn't
use Bluecurve *at all*). I plan on making distro-release-specific pkgs
to at least support the Bluecurve kdm theme to distros that support it
(ie, fc5, fc6, not rhel4), unless there is an outcry from the
congregation not to do so.

Anyway, we'll let kde-3.5.5 simmer in unstable for 2-3 days before
moving it to testing.

p.s. with fc6 release right around the corner, I'm getting real psyched
about http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/UnleashKDE

Sorry, forgot to mention another reason for "unstable" is that not 100%
of the kde pkgs are built yet, but I didn't want to wait getting these
out for public consumption. And, it's ok to remind me which pieces are
missing. (:

Just out of curiosity: Is this going to have any effect on the RHEL packages ?

Thanks.

x86_64 builds included?

Not that I'm aware of, but maybe for RHEL6 (but that's quite a ways off).

I don't understand this... I have /etc/sysconfig/desktop already set to KDE:
# cat /etc/sysconfig/desktop
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"

Will the update to 3.5.5 break my customized KDM configuration (I currently
have KDM's background cycle thru a bunch of pics from recent camping
trips...)

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

We have about 200 PC running el3/el4 with KDE 3.5.1 from kde-redhat.
Because of the "hal problem", I don't want to update these PCs to the
latest stable KDE release. However, I would like to provide security
fixes for KDE 3.5.1.
Here is my problem: Unfortunately I don't have any SRPMs of the KDE
3.5.1 release. In particular, I would need the SRPMs of kdelibs and
kdebase with the following versions:

kdebase-3.5.1-4.2.x.kde
kdelibs-3.5.1-2.x.x.kde

Has anybody still the 3.5.1 SRPMs (released around 16 Feb 2006)?
Even the SPEC files only would be very useful for me!

Thanks,

Urs

To be clear, previous packaging would add those lines to make kdm the
default (but only if DESKTOP= or DISPLAYMANAGER= were not already present)

No foreseeable breakage, as kdmrc (and associated files) are marked
%config(noreplace)
so you should get the behavior you desire. (:

Good news then! kde-3.5.5 (supposedly) fixes that.

Not I, unfortunately, but what you probably want is kde-3.5.3, it was
kde-3.5.4 that introduced the breakage.
