+1. There needs to be a focus on providing News (Relevant Community and Official) and
Commentary that is aimed at the semi-technical, tech-enthusiast crowd. Ideally, this
would contain both original content as well as highlights from all of our various front-
facing media: Planet, .Dot, G+, Youtube channel, etc. That's sort of what I was trying to
do with http://thebluemint.blogspot.com, although that obviously hasn't been updated
in a while.

Since no one has mentioned this in this thread yet, I would like to throw out there that a
possible outlet for this type of communication may already exist in Userbase. On
Userbase's landing page it says "Userbase.kde.org is the home for KDE users and
enthusiasts." So it would appear that we have our potential outlet medium already
defined for us.

Userbase in it's current state is stagnant and boring. And I would say evidence of this is
the fact that no one has even mentioned it. Couldn't we make a case, or at least initiate a
discussion, for making it a bit more relevant? And while we're in the mood to possibly
shake things up a bit, the Community and Userbase wiki's could potentially be combined
into one dynamic (read: non-stagnant) web presence, serving to (among other things)
engage the community, educate on KDE applications, provide an aggregated (non-
techie) news source, and elicit potential contributors. By "News" I do not mean just
provide a Planet widget on the main page, but as mentioned earlier provide news from
more of a user/fan perspective.

In essence we have the Dot, which is pretty good in it's current state - essentially an
official news outlet with relevant content well positioned on the landing page. We have
Planet, with relevant developer news and commentary. What's evidently lacking is a user
/fan-only site that informs, entertains, educates, and motivates our Users. I have several
ideas on how we could make this happen should anyone find my opinions worth
pondering.
