Well most composite ops don't touch the alpha channel. I would say OVER and 
ALPHA DARKEN are exceptional in that area.

Sounds complicated :) and I don't really see the point.

And now that I think about it, we probably just need to use COMPOSITE_OVER 
with ALPHA channel locked.
