I agree with you Kevin, and I am changing my distribution.
New users in linux not have knowledge in to compile programs, they prefered package \
of the programs to your distributions with rpm and debian that automatize process.

Usually users install their distributor's packages.
If they are unhappy with the package size because their distributor 
decided to make huge monolithic packages, they can either complain to 
their distributor or change to a distribution with sane packaging.
