I've been having the same problem and have't had much luck with getting
responses about it. Is there a way to manually set the background for KDM?

And speaking of KDM, are the user/root icons (black cloudy things) going
to be changed? They seem to be pretty well hidden because I don't see
them anywhere in the icon chooser and I haven't had much luck finding
exactly where they are (I've wanted to change them back after trying out
some other icons).
