believe me, i've tried. i've inserted the entry for xplanet in the
background settings > background > setup program, to wit:

xplanetbg -body 3 -earthside -i /usr/share/xplanet/moon.bmp -shade 10
-rad 38 -label -starfreq 0 -wait 3600

and it does not appear on the kde desktop. but when i kill kde, there
is xplanet, running underneath, kind of between x and kde.
interestingly, the author of xplanet says he's gotten it to work just
fine as the kde-1.x desktop.

is there something i'm missing in getting it to work on the kde2
desktop? i have it running with kde right now, but that's by not
running kdedesktop at all.

if you go with the flow you'll get
chopped to pieces by the turbines.
