If you want it to, yes. MICO supports several types of communication via
the -ORBIIOPAddr <addr> command line option. <addr> can be

unix:/file/name 	for UNIX a unix domain socket
inet:host:port  	for inet sockets (TCP)
local:          	Direct C++ method call (if server and client is in the
			same process)
inet-dgram:host:port	for inet sockets (UDP)

You can probably find patches that enable more exotic transports also.
