Subject: how to get the install prefix
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Hi!

The main idea behind the KStandardDirs changes is that
you won't have one single $KDEDIR, but a prefix where
kdelibs and kdebase are installed and a prefix where
the very app is installed.

So if you get kless from the ftp server, you may
want to configure --prefix $HOME/test-kless and
it should work even if kless has it's own mimetypes
(it won't I guess ;) and icons installed. Of course
it won't be visible in the kpanel as kpanel can't
guess this path, but at least you can try it.

But for this to work, KStandardDirs has to know the
prefix kless was installed to find it's files. The
first naive idea was to have each application call
a function or add a parameter for the KApplication
constructor. But that's not very nice as you would
have to fix those apps (which is not such a big
problem, as there will be a reason to fix it anyway
for 2.0 ;)

But do you think, it would work to check for the
path it was ran from? Or any other idea?

Greetings, Stephan
