It is still available from the 4.2 branch:
http://websvn.kde.org/branches/KDE/4.2/kdeplasma-addons/applets/bluemarble/

http://lxr.kde.org finds no usage of GLApplet outside libplasma and bindings, 
so there seem to be no other examples.
