In my experience the last few years in the (kde) mobile fie= ld, > people are not that interested in such things when they do not have > gadgets.=20 yep; the number of people who will buy and flash a device on their own = is=20 unfortunately small. but i totally understand. fwiw, after ~9 months working on the custom hardware for the Vivaldi ta= blet,=20 casework finally got completed (we had 3 false starts in which a protot= ype run=20 showed problems not caught on the CAD files; very, very frustrating stu= ff ..) the completed prototype casework is off for final tooling (and i=E2=80=99= m now facing a=20 decision of which of two materials to use for the back; dual injection = mould=20 plastic or something a bit fancier .. the fancier option wasn=E2=80=99t= available to=20 us a few months back, but the factory can now do either and they need t= o work=20 up their final quote (everything is =E2=80=9CJIT=E2=80=9D there) so we=E2= =80=99re getting a quote on=20 both) but that means we=E2=80=99ll soon have a trial run of a thousand device= s some of which=20 will go off for CE/FCC certification and the rest of which we=E2=80=99l= l be able to sell=20 as an early run batch. then mainline production will crank and we=E2=80= =99ll be in=20 real business: as many devices as we can sell and no flashing or other = humbug,=20 just open the box and turn it on. and that will be a major hurdle cleared for getting people going with o= pen=20 software on open devices where you also get to keep the warranty ;) oh .. and we=E2=80=99ve got engineering boards coming too for those who= want to play=20 at a slightly lower level. think raspberry pi but with actual horsepowe= r. --=20 Aaron J.
