Package: kcontrol
Version: KDE 2.1.1
Severity: normal
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Linux-Mandrake 8.0 2.96-0.48mdk)
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I wanted to tune kdm settings with kcontrol.

No module appears when launching kcontrol, thus no setting can be made.
kcmshell also complains the same way.

As the error message complains about menus:

"WARNING: No K menu group with X-KDE-BaseGroup=settings found ! Defaulting to \
Settings/"

this might be the result of Mandrake menu system (which garantees you see all \
relevant menu items in all window managers menus) interfering with some special \
properties you have put in the KDE menu.

This is severe, because it renders kcontrol wholly useless: no setting can be \
accessible at all!

The same problem appeared when trying to install kde2.1 on Mandrake 7.2 .

BUT I think it worked for a while before the problem appeared.

I did "rpm -V" on the kde packages, nothing appropriate.
I renamed root's ".kde" dir to have all settings reset, it didn't solve.
I took another user's ".kde" dir also, and tried again.

Now I can't change kdm settings, unless I edit kdmrc by hand and guess what to put \
in...

KDE would be a much greater thing, if it wasn't so huge and slow.

Thanks anyway!
