The mail notification is not necessarily needed, as the link to a post never
changes, moved or not. So it is even easier to click "Your posts" than
navigating through the entire tree just to find out your post is not existant
anymore.
As for shadows, personally i found it convenient to remove existing shadows (if
they were needed at all) after some period of time. Or once they got to page 2
of your forumlist.
But i agree indeed, shadows are not necessarily a good idea. On the other side,
considering it is a build in feature of phpbb, and it would be another core
modification i would rather tend to mark it as wontfix and suggest to not use
shadows at all. Or along with the move just replying "this topic got moved due
to wrong location". This leads to a notification in any case.
