Just tried to reproduce the problem (with yesterday's svn): I can, but it really \
                depends on the exact window manager settings you listed:
- focus strictly under mouse
- autoraise
- delay focus
Could it be that your problem disappeared because you changes some wm setting?
In any case I tend to agree with Mark's suspicion.
