The KDE Project today announced the release of KOffice 1.4.2 for Linux and
Unix operating systems. Support for the OpenDocument format, recently adopted
by Massachusetts state in the USA, has been greatly improved, especially in
KWord, KSpread and KPresenter. Karbon, a vector-based drawing program, has
also seen a lot of development lately, and many fixes have gone into it.
David Faure, core developer, said "with good support for the OpenDocument
format we can offer users a lightweight and integrated alternative to
OpenOffice. KOffice also sports a number of unique features, such as being
able to open and edit PDFs in KWord."
KOffice is the most comprehensive office suite in existence, whilst also being
light-weight and fast. It provides a variety of filters to interoperate with
other popular office suites such as OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office. It
is developed as part of the KDE Project.
Improvements
This release is a bugfix release, which means that no new features have been
added. However, it contains many bugfixes, and we would like to highlight the
following:
* Improved OASIS OpenDocument Support
The support for the OpenDocument format has been greatly improved, especially
in KWord, KSpread and KPresenter. In particular, care has been taken to
insure better interoperability with the new release candidate of Open Office
2.0.
* Major Improvement of Karbon, the vector application
Karbon has seen a flurry of development lately, and many fixes have gone into
it. See all the details in the list of changes linked below.
Please take a look at the list of changes to see all the improvements made to
KOffice since the 1.4.1 release:
