I think you're trying to say that you added IMON support to the kernel, 
but did not add fam to the default runlevel. That bieng so...

This isn't really a solution, but you could try removing IMON from the 
kernel. It is never supposed to be compiled in statically, only as a 
module. You could try evaluating the performace of the system with or 
without the IMON module.
