By definition, that can only be done by converting the tabs to
spaces, because in the normal usage of a tab, its A) 8 spaces, and B)
counted in multiples of  8 spaces from the left margin to fill in so
that a tab always starts you off in the next column.  But, for
codeing, thats certainly a gross amount whereas 2 to 4 is sufficient
to do the lexical indentations.

That said, I'm with you, its a but hard to apply a patch that was
submitted via kmail, because the tabs have been converted to spaces.
Maybe that should be added to the configuration menu's?
