Package: kmail
Version: 1.4.3 (using KDE 3.0.3 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 3.2
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

Whenever I try to check my email from, Kmail produces the above error. I have \
recompiled KDE several times, including kdebase. I recompiled my entire Gentoo system \
last night, including KDE, and the problem still remains. I have tried everything I \
can think of. Aside from the pop-up message, the following message is printed in the \
terminal window (when Kmail is started from a terminal):

QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key
ERROR: ERROR 3: couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol ''.

I have checked the protocol sub-directory under kde and the pop3 protocol is indeed \
there. I have also tried to get other apps to have a similar problem, such as knode, \
but all others seem able to access their protocols just fine. I had Kmail working \
just fine on a Gentoo system compiled with gcc 3.1.1, but when I upgraded to, and \
recompiled my system with, gcc 3.2, Kmail started having this problem. The compliler \
flags I used are these: -fexpensive-optimizations -fomit-frame-pointer \
-frerun-cse-after-loop -frerun-loop-opt

When I compiled with gcc 3.1.1, I used the same flags except for \
-fexpensive-optimizations.

Hopefully I have provided enough information. Please help with (or fix) this problem. \
Thanks.
