are you sure you compile your app in debug mode? debugging in release mode will
not work since without debug symbols, it doesn't know where to place break
points.

please verify this, e.g. by running your app from the cli in gdb:

gdb yourapp
break main
run

-> if that doesn't stop either, you did not compile with debug symbols
