Fedora packagers are willing (and probably so are other packagers) to keep this
patch for the Qt 4.6 lifetime, if the API is the same as the one that will get
into Qt 4.7.

So John, if you want to ship this not too far in the future just contact
packagers and Qt devs and try to find a temporary solution.
