Problem.... At least for the packages created at pandmservices.com - they need
to be in /usr/local/ - I leave rpaths turned on in the build. The packages
are non-relocatable.

I also took a moment and went to your machine. A few things caught my eye.
Remember the exports that I listed in my origional email announcing the
packages? They need to be in your .bashrc. For some reasons that's where they
work well, I have no idea why, but that is the case.

also, from your .xsession-errors file in your home directory:

bash-2.05$ more .xsession-errors
Error: "/home/henryst/.kde3/tmp-henryst.mit.edu" is not a link or a directory.
Error: "/home/henryst/.kde3/socket-henryst.mit.edu" is not a link or a
directory.
ksplash: error while loading shared libraries: libkdeui.so.4: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libDCOP.so.4: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
ksmserver: error while loading shared libraries: libkdecore.so.4: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
connect() failed: : Permission denied
bash-2.05$

This is the problem. The debug output to the screen does not always tell the
whole story, but this file does. Once you added the lib path to ld.conf.so in
/etc did root run ldconfig -v ?

Hope this helps a little.
