The first problem reminds me to another problem and a possible solution I
gave some time ago:

---
--- Perhaps you miss a cable between the CD drive and your sound card.
---
--- Playing (Audio-) CDs on a CDROM drive does NOT send the data through
--- Mainboard/CPU/RAM or what ever. But a program to listen a CD on a PC
--- starts the drive, that's all. The data read from the CD will be
--- converted from digital to analog already on the drive (A/D converter
--- on the drive). Then the analog data has to run over a cable which
--- connects the drive with the sound card. The sound card mixes this
--- analog data with its own analog output and gives the sum of CD and own
--- data to its output connector (to your sound boxes or ear hearer or
--- whatever).
---
--- I assume you have not the cable between CDROM drive and sound card
--- installed properly.
