When I walk away from my system, I lock the screen. This is important
because I am the Unix System Administrator for Discover Card, and I often
have root windows open into various systems. Keeping people out of them is
a Good Idea.

I also have xbiff running, and usually I have a telnet window to a remote
system open with pine running. If either of those two applications
generates an alert, my screensaver disappears. Many times I have come back
to my system to find it sitting at the desktop, all my windows open to the
world. This is a Bad Thing, but at least I know I have email. :)

From my limited experimentation, any alert will cause klock to quit on
this system.

I am using Caldera OpenLinux 2.3, kernel 2.2.10, glibc 2.1.1. None of the
KDE applications have been changed from the distribution.
