In the original post my problem started by accidently entering the word "hello" in the Cc: field and trying to send. Kmail would continually try to deliever this message to a user "hello" on my local machine and would prevent me from sending new messages. I was able to get kmail working by creating a dummy user named "hello". Then in kmail under file I selected "Send Queued". The message "re-try ... not found" was successfully delivered and I am now able to send messages once again.
