Subject: Bug#1844: Bogus text/english attachment type

Package: kmail
Version: 1.0.17
A user using this version of KMail with a SuSE 6.2 system has been
sending me mail with plain text attachments. Unfortunately, KMail
identifies them as being of type text/english rather than the usual
text/plain and so my mail client (mutt) gets confused about how to
handle them and won't let me read them in the way I would expect.
As far as I can tell the configuration is pretty much the default one.
Since IANA has no record of this media type and a brief survey of
handy technical users revealed precisely zero people who had heard of
text/english this seems to be a problem with KMail rather than any other
software.
Part of the problem may be the fact that KMail is using base64 to encode
what should be plain text - this would certainly not encourage mutt to
let me treat it as plain text.
This could well be a packaging issue, but unfortunately I don't have
access to the box with the problem. If it's not a KMail problem I
apologise for wasting your time.
