  The KDE pre-alpha 2.0, has the folowing code in KDEBASE 2.0,
more precisely the KDESKTOP code.

bgndwm.cc: connect ( kapp, SIGNAL (saveYourSelf() ), this, SLOT(
slotSave() ));

  The signal in 'kapp' is actually 'saveYourself'. The bad signal
reference
causes kpanel to hang on logout, waiting for kdesktop to answer to
saveYourself
window manager control. As the manager never answers, logout never
commenses
but hangs.

  The window manager needs to have an alternative, to detect such
situations,
so that it won't hang in such cases. As there are other applications,
that
don't answer correctly to the new interfact in 2.0. Old applications,
I'm
sure, but they'll cause problems.
