severity: grave
I think I found a very bad bug in the KDE system, although I'm not sure. I have
built a network,
one server with /opt/kde, exporting /opt to all clients (running Linux) with
nfs.
Some users have to work under one single account, simultanuously, from several
computers.
This means they all have the same account, /home/trainee, also mounted by nfs
from the server.
BUG: When they do this, at all but one computer suddenly the buttons, menus etc.
of KDE
will work anymore. You can still execute commands from a shell, or have
wordperfect 8 open a
new window, but you can no longer launch any new KDE application from the menus
or bar.
I would say this is a race condition: the first user logs in as trainee, and
then opens some critical
files in his or hers .kde/ directory, and when the second logs in, this critical
file is already open
and therefore nothing works anymore.
This is a real showstopper, because I really cannot give all these trainees
different accounts.
Roland Nagtegaal
ps. please respond quickly, because this is about a life system I built and I
have to resolve this
problem pronto...
