Is this really a SIGPIPE problem ? Could be related to stdout/stdin
redirections.

Do I assume correctly that you run the test in a terminal window that
was started by the session manager ? Which terminals did you use ? I can
reproduce the problem with xterm. konsole and kvt are fine. Using the
'-nosession' does NOT make a difference here.
