I have the following set in my .Xdefaults:

  emacs*Background: DarkSlateGray
  emacs*Foreground: wheat
  emacs*pointerColor: Orchid
  emacs*cursorColor: Orchid
  emacs*bitmapIcon: on
  emacs*font: fixed
  emacs.geometry: 80x25

and I call "xrdb -merge .Xdefaults" in my .Xclients script.

However, when I start Emacs, all the letters in the edit and mini
windows are are black on white. This only happens on my 32 bit color
machines -- the 8 bit color machines are fine. I have recieved one
email report of the same problem on 16-bit machines. I have seen this
on a Matrox Mystique 220 using the XF86_SVGA server and my Dell at
work using the XF86_Mach64 server.
